Hello fisher,my wife and I rig them on 1/8-3/8 oz jig heads and work them slow on the bottom for Flounder and Redfish here on Sabine lake and Sabine river. they will out fish any jig around. I have not tried to use them under any kind of Mauler, catching to many fish to try it.

I've fished them on on jig heads under a popping cork. In my opinion the gulp shrimp are fragile and undersized trout tend to destroy them. So, buy a few more packages than you would for a traditional plastic shrimp tail.

I have tried the Berkley Gulp shrimp and have not had much success. I have spoken to several other fisherman who have also used the gulp shrimp and have not had much success either. I have tried all types of rigs and not even a bite. I think I'll stick with live shrimp.

I fish mine using a 1/16th or 1/8th jig head...I use the New Penny and White as my top 2 colors, size 3"...
You can use them on a cork setup if its choppy out..
Fish them slow and on the bottom for flounder and reds and a little faster for trout.

I ditto the 'not much luck with gulp products'. Waste of money if you ask me. Theres a lot of cheaper products that do a lot better.

hey cruzion i have tried the saltwater assasins but have not had much luck. i was going to go and buy the gulp shrimp but after reading some of the negative posts about that product, i am having second thoughts. what plastics work good for you and what color are you using? i read somewhere that color matters when the water is murky or clear.

I suspect if you look at the economics gulp shrimp vs live shrimp, live shrimp would be about the same price. Quart of shrimp = $12? Pack of gulp = $5 If the fish are biting your going to need more than one pack. The one time I tried gulp I used a pack in about an hour then switched to a DOA three pack. The three pack lasted the rest of the morning. The rest of my group was using a basic natural color plastic shrimp tail with about the same success rate. I do think the gulp recieved a few more bites than the plastic shrimp tails. FYI..my go to plastic is the tequila gold Norton Bull Minnow.

A Draper, My go to plastic is the Norton Sand Eel in Mardis Gras or Black magic for night fishing. I hardly ever fish my Bull Minnow's, not because they dont produce but because I use hardbaits most of the time.
Need2Fish.. The negativity on Gulp isn't all that bad its like anything else either some like or some dont. On 2coolfishing.com they love em.
Besides most people, I am not point fingers, but most people dont know how to fish em and use the bait to its fullest. Such as once Gulp has been destroyed by several fish cut it up and put it in a bag with your other plastics and let the scent rub on them. Or you can cut the shrimp up and use it under a cork setup.
I fish Padre with it year round and have had moderate to great success depending on the day.. Tho' it will not be my go to plastic until Norton completely fudgeds up the Sand Eels or something better comes out.

Eagle971, I have the Mardis Gras color in Sand eel and bull minnow, but for whatever reason I always tie on the minnow. I guess its a confidence thing. Next outing I'll leave the minnows at home and give the eel a shot. Do you use the full size or Jrs? I picked up a sample pack of Norton's shrimp tail at the winter Houston Boat show. They look good but I haven't tried them. Seems like where the shrimp body meets the paddle tail is a little week. My one year old daughter got into the open pack and destroyed three pretty quick.
Are the hardbaits you use the traditional Top Dog, Spook, Skitterwalk, stuff? I've been fishing freshwater a lot lately with Norman Fatboy shallow running crank baits with good success. I don't know trout and redfish will like the Fatboy wiggle but I'm going to try it out.

The Gulp Shrimp are best for sight fishing for reds. We also throw them weedless and I always have great success with them.

My go to lures are the Skitter Walks and Spooks this year. I have a few top dogs but I mainly use 52mr's. Yes, Their tales are weak and after 4-7 good hits or catches it's time to retire them to either cork setups or scent enhancers for other baits. Also, I fish the Sand Eels just because I have a billion of them. Now I am going to Padre for 3 weeks in Aug so I will let my fishing buddy use the Eels and I will use Bulls and see which gets more attention. To other readers I get most of my Soft baits and cork setups @ http://www.satackle.com/.-z-

I bought some Foodsource shrimp--new--gonna try them at Port A this weekend. The 4 inch minnow works great up here on hybrids and stripers so looking foward to trying them out down there.
