hey all!
I'm looking to purchase some waders- nothing top-of-the-line, just something that'll keep me pretty warm and will last. Ive looked at the Magellan Outdoors Neoprene waders (60$) but id love any other suggestions that might be more tried and true.
thanks, Danial

April-October there’s usually no need. After that, get something breathable. Main question is what application, if rocky streams and rivers, you need a good set of Wade boots, felt with cleats preferred. If fishing a trout stream this time of year all you need are a pair of breathable shorts and some good wade boots with wade socks.

Before I bought my Orvis waders I had good luck with the Magellan breathables. I tore one set on a nail I didn’t notice in a duck blind. The other sets all lasted several years. One set was only good for two years, but that was very likely a storage issue rather than a Magellan quality issue. I had no complaints.

Personally I do not like neoprene waders and I really like my Hodgman non-insulated waders. I can layer clothing under them to get the desired warmth and still retain good movement. I used them for duck hunting for years and they have been great for fishing.

I haven't had luck with any of them. Even the cheap Simms. Magellan is probably the best of them, or at least as good. I'm rough on mine so I end up buying a new pair every year. I've tried others like Froggtogg, etc. but it's been hit or miss how long the seams hold together.

If you are willing to go through the hassle of ordering from Canada, RAPALA waders are pretty darn good! I have a pair.

Redington and the new SImms Freestone. Always get breathables. You can layer up underneath for winter fishing.

Yep. wear long johns and sweats with heavy wool socks under them in the winter. The last thing you want to do in cold water is start sweating.

On my second set of Cabelas breathable waders. If you can wait, they will go on sale at some point.
