I found this pretty interesting.

Executive summary:
He intentionally leaves out buckets of water, adds dirt and grass to make it stagnate more quickly, and treats it with the poison tabs. The mosquitos are attracted to the stagnant water and the tabs kill them.

In a world where mosquitos are a constant nuisance, Julian Shapiro, a prominent figure on Twitter, has shared a simple yet effective technique to eliminate these pesky insects.

His method, which involves the use of buckets, water, dirt, grass, and a product known as a “mosquito dunk,” has reportedly led to a mosquito-free environment.

The Mosquito Elimination Technique
Shapiro’s technique is straightforward. He suggests filling buckets with water, dirt, and grass, and placing them in shaded areas, spread 50 feet apart. In each bucket, a “mosquito dunk” is placed.

After waiting for six weeks, Shapiro reports that the mosquito population has been eliminated.

The Science Behind the Technique
Mosquitos are attracted to stale water for laying their eggs. The dirt and grass in the buckets create the chemical reactions that produce “old water,” drawing mosquitos in.

The mosquito “dunk” contains a bacteria that is harmless to humans but lethal to mosquito eggs.

As long as there are no other sources of stagnant water on your property, mosquitos have no choice but to breed in the buckets. Since mosquitos only live for a few weeks, a couple of generations breeding into buckets with no offspring leads to the population dying out.

The Key to Success: Mosquitos Are Not Migratory
Contrary to popular belief, mosquitos are not migratory. They tend to stay near the area they were born. This is the key to why Shapiro’s technique works. By placing buckets around your property, you ensure that the mosquitos near you will use them and die out.

Yeah, Mosquito dunks. They have a bacteria that kills the young larva.

Lowe's sells the dunks. They also have the loose stuff. All it is is ground up corn cob that has, "BTI" on it.

Since Spartan mosquito controls have gone from a 90 to a 30 day tube of shizzle for the same price as the 90, I switched to these with great results.
https://tougherthantom.com. Are they 100% effective? Nope...but darn close. farmer

I live in the galactic center of skeet universe. 10X after a storm.

The little pellets you throw in standing water is ok, but if you're gonna get rid of skeets, you gotta go nuclear. Bifen XTS is nuclear. Spray down your grass and trees, wherever the little vampires rest, and you're good for a month. Even storm mosquitoes, which if you have never experienced will make you run straight into a wall.

If I eliminated any stagnant water and mosquitos don't migrate, wouldn't they be gone anyway?
