Answered the door nekkid except for a 45 tucked in a tube sock on my right leg.

Ok for real, I just caught a pest control solicitor in my neighbor's back yard. Clean cut young guy, nicely dressed, riding one of those 2-wheeled battery scooters and carrying an ipad thing. Saw him ride up into the side yard in between our houses. I thought maybe he was a meter guy a first but he had no vest on. So I went out to look and here he comes out of the neighbor's backyard gate. Ripped him a new one and told him to leave the neighborhood.

So what does he do? Goes to the start of the block, starts going house to house knocking on doors, including my neighbor's whose yard he was just in, and then mine...and I have a No Soliciting sign.

That was it for me...I didn't bother answering the door. I called Mansfield PD and they got hold of him. Mansfield has a very strict soliciting ordinance, so now that he's in the computer he won't be able to work here unless he passes a background check and all that. If he doesn't get the permit, it's a $500 citation.

I know the arguments about "everyone has to make a living" and all that. But from PD experience I know that a lot of these guys are traveling contractors, not your local small business entrepreneur just trying to make ends meet. They used to sell magazines on college campuses but magazines hardly exist anymore so now they do regular door-to-door. A LOT of them have outstanding warrants from other states, usually for traffic and no soliciting violations, but sometimes for more. I even caught one in a stolen van one time. And a lot of them make side money by keeping their eyes open for anything they can come back and steal later.

This guy had Idaho plates on his car. I'm sure he was legit selling pest control services, but he was also up to no good at the same time.

Should have ripped his nose ring out! bolt

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

We have a guy that rides one of those scooter things too, comes thru here about twice a year. Not sure what he’s selling because I’ve never talked to him due to old peoples duck and cover techniques

The solar guys and roofers are out in force right now , I will debate the merit of solar panels for hours with them until they figure out I am trying to consume their time.

Roofers I just look at their big wrapped Bro Dozer douche truck and ask them do they think that actually helps them sell roofs ? They ask why and I reply well those $20k wheels and tires had to come from somewhere.

way to go
the trucks are a stain on our industry
but the real roofers
cats installing commercial roofs & such
you never see a truck like that on a jobsite

Must come from selling a lot of roofs 🤷🏻‍♂️

League City is supposed to be strict on soliciting in suburbs. Not sure I believe it. Last year we had a pest control company that had a permit for door to door in our subdivision. All these sales guys had copies of their permit hung around their neck on a lanyard. One guy knocked on my door and was a smart arse kid that didn’t want to leave and kept trying to hard sell me. I closed the door, he rang the door bell the second time. I told him over my ring door bell app of you ring that door bell one more time I’ll let my wife deal with you. He said can I talk to her. I said won’t be much talking, she’ll shoot you through the door and I really don’t want to have to get a new door. He finally left. My wife call League City, whoever she spoke with they had multiple complaints. One of this companies sales guys threatened/scared a lady other end of the subdivision. She had it on ring video. Police showed up, permits revoked problem solved. I’ve seen some aggressive sales in my time but this company was off the chart.

Thanks, Billy

If they knock on my door I just tell them I am in sales and I appreciate the hustle but I am not interested. No reason to raise your BP over something silly. I can say I wouldn't appreciate them in my back yard for sure. That's a good was to get pew-pew-pewed...

The guy is trying to earn a living, not answering the door or just saying no thanks would be sufficient I suspect.
