My garage door spring broke last weekend and replaced it this morning. Wife and I were surprised we didn't hear it break. I've been told it sounds very loud.

Got tough towards the end of the winding process.

Replacement went smooth though. Any of yall have any exciting garage door spring stories?

You can run a coat hanger between the top of the door and the frame. Snag that emergency release and open the door.

happens, I did a stint as a garage door installer fresh out of school for my buddy's dads company... best thing you can do to extend the life of the torsion springs is to oil them, not so much that it leaves oil on the top of the door so when you open it it drips down on your car...just take a rag and oil it up and "moisten" the spring, do it at least once a year...and be careful with them winding bars ! like a chuck key left in an engine lathe on start up they can bust things up...LOL

When mine old torsion spring busted I went with Wayne Dalton Torquemaster Plus cable drum system. Much safer/cleaner look and you can easily replace parts when needed yourself..

Never mess with another man’s wife, kids, dog or any garage door spring.

I bet Nickybird has some stories.

An old plumber told me once that half of being smart is knowing what you are dumb at.

Known about that for many years. Wind that cord around the arm to prevent thrives from gaining access.
