So with main stream fly boxes being so expensive and me being cheap and can’t justify spending $50 on a fly box. I’m curious if anyone here feels the same and has found a way to carry their flys while wading with like a cheap box or a different crafty idea?

Boxes are great suggestions to family for Christmas, birthday, Father’s Day and other occasions. That being said, I tend to carry mine in ziplock freezer bags in a sling pack for the little bit of wading I do.

You can get a fly box on EBay without spending $50. There are lots of options. Here is an example:

I watch Sierra Trading Post and stock up when I see something I like. They currently have several different brands and styles in stock. So, now is a good time to be looking for a fly box. You never know what they will have available.

Hate to say it, but Amazon is probably your friend:

Orvis and Cabelas should have boxes from $10 and up that you can pick up in store.

I have a few of these and they are quality stuff. Waterproof as well and don't break the bank. Good luck

Lots of fly boxes under $20 and many that are $20-50.
I have a few that hold anywhere from 20-100+ flies that fit in my shirt pocket for under $25.
The aluminum ones are pretty indestructible unless you run over them, lol.

Which ones do you have that fit in your shirt pocket that hold that many flies?

So based on your link 4Weight, I clicked on it and ordered this box as soon as I hit the site. There were a few strange gyrations based on billing from a different name, but it all worked out. Got it a few days later, and only now have had the time to do a gear review of it. That will be out on my YouTube channel in the next few days. Thanks for the link. Kinda fun clicking and just rolling the dice sometimes!

Here's that review. I would say it "looks" like the more expensive tacky boxes, but the "tacky" material is not the same. But for the smaller (a lot smaller) flies, does it really matter?

Glad it worked out. I think they are great little boxes for the price point.

Heck I have a small plastic one, don't remember the brand off top of my head but it holds over a hundred.
My aluminum one probably holds 150 or so small flies.
I just carry what I think I might need not all my flies.
I don't have a large assortment anyway though, lol.

Wytex,

They have some small ones double sided with gaskets for trout flies. I have a couple. Nice little boxes would be perfect for a shirt pocket. Hit the site and look at dimensions on the boxes. It will be their smallest size.

Good luck.

Small boxes are pretty abundant. That larger size is the hard one (for me) to find. I do have one of these - https://www.sightcastfishing.com/fly-shop/scfc-fly-box-medium and they are nice and tight ... just looking for anything in this size to save some on cost.
