Today’s trip was one of those little “different” than normal trips. Most trips are go out, catch a lot of fish , clean them, talk a little about the trip and say goodbye. Today was not the case. Today was a day of MANY firsts. Bruce Campbell won a trip several month’s ago and we finally were able to get a day. So, I met , Bruce , Joe , and Jaxson today for the first time. Today’s goal was to see how Jaxson would respond to being on a boat, Jaxson to catch a few fish and set the tone for his future in fishing. Today was Jaxson’s first time out on a boat. Today Jaxson caught his first fish. Today Jaxson touched his first fish. Jaxson was able to do MAN stuff today! Bruce, Joe , and myself feel like today was a huge success towards this young man’s future in fishing. I have always said that if you can keep a fishing rod in their hand, you won’t have to worry about them having a needle in their arm! When these guys showed up this morning they were telling me about them using Stubby’s bait and being successful from his dock. Then Bruce looked around and saw the Stubby’s bait logo on Stubby’s truck and it hit him. He realized he was at Stubby’s house and going fishing with one of the only two in the World that know how to make the bait! After the trip, they got to meet the legend himself. They had good conversation while I was cleaning fish. I was super proud of how today went. With about an hour and a half left in the trip, the sun started beating down on us. Jaxson said he was tired and ready to go. We respected his wishes and headed in. They put 35 in the boat and have plenty for a fish fry without having to buy a couple extra bags of French fries.
