In my search for some decent bank fishing spots near Comfort, I spotted Knapp Park in Kerrville. Just wondered if anybody had been there, if it was fishable. I know many stretches of the Guadalupe in Kerrville are thick with reeds going out about 20 feet from the shore, with thick overhanging trees that block casting, etc. Anybody been there?

I kayak fished Nimitz Lake when I lived there, but usually launched at the Cypress(?) Park ramp, just a little bit before the next bridge. Lots more structure there, but you'd have to look and see if you can access it from the bank. The Flat Rock Lake Park(free) across from the state park, downstream of Louise Hayes Park, has lots of bank-fishable water. Also, New and Old Ingram Lakes. Kerrville is a really centrally-located spot to fish the Hill Country rivers and lakes. IslandJim

Ruark: Center Point has some bank-fishing spots that can be good. A flyfishing friend fishes the Guad above Center Point, where Center Point River Road crosses the Guad, and that's about a 1/8th mile above the Turtle Creek junction. Lots of open, un-fenced river bank and shallows that are wade-able. Don't know about cats, but bass. crappie and gar, for sure. I was sitting in my yak one day in Old Ingram Lake, getting a huge backlash untangled, and I looked up and there were probably 15 3-foot gar around my yak, trying to figure out what I was doing! Some big bass in there, too. You can fish off the dam, and off a bridge at the other end, just below the New Lake Ingram dam. Above there, the property owners get rabid about anyone setting foot on their land. So many great spots there, is what made me buy a kayak, ten years ago. Good luck, IslandJim

That's good info, Jim! I looked on Google Street View where Center Point River Road crosses the Guad, and it looks good, but don't see anywhere to park the car.... lots of places to check out around old Ingram Lake, looks like a lot of development around there, or it's heavily infested with weeds or overgrowth. Will check it out!

Was running errands in Kerrville today, and dropped by Knapp Park. Nope. Just a little kayak ramp with fencing on both sides, and the rest of the shoreline thickly overgrown. Went down the street to Guadalupe Park. Nothing there, just a little playground and a short stretch of green, icky-looking water maybe a couple feet deep in the middle.
Haven't made it to the Ingram Lakes yet. Also, I still need to check out the Guad at Center Point that Jim was talking about. I'm getting desperate.
Before anybody mentions it, I've been to Joshua Springs Preserve many times; I live about 5 minutes from there. You can catch a lot of fish there, like one every 30 seconds - I use Billy King's on a #4 treble with a squirt of attactant and the channels don't even give me time to sit down, BUT..... it's all just little 8-9-inch bait stealers, not even legal size. Kinda fun to catch so many fish, but that gets old after a while.
