Maybe, coming to a store near you. “ The new design at the Walgreens, 2 E. Roosevelt Road, places most of the merchandise in aisles behind staffed counters, with two interior aisles — covered by anti-theft detectors — where customers can browse and grab items themselves.” https://blockclubchicago.org/2023/0...es-the-rest-of-the-store-is-locked-away/

Probably smart move in Chicago.
Family is everything! Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.

Many stores including Walgreens were already doing this in NYC when I visited last summer.

They need that in the Grand Prairie Walgreens like yesterday!!
I don’t go in there much at all, but it seems like the times that I do, there’s always somebody stealing something, just sprinting out the door with an arm load of stuff. Yes, I know it’s grand Prairie, but I believe it’s more along the lines of thieves have identified Walgreens as being soft on thievery.

Anyone remember Service Merchandise? Yep, that retail model may be making a comeback. Surprised HD and Lowes haven't gone that route for their tools in bigger cities.

All the new apartments going up has brought out more thieves.

Mu Ergin, a South Loop resident and regular of the store, said the shop was previously “dirty, smelly and not properly organized.”

I saw something like this in San Francisco about four years ago.
It was basically a store that was a giant vending machine. You'd look at the products through the plastic swipe your credit card and it would spit out one product. No opportunity to grab anything and run out you had to pay before you could get hands on a product. And best part for them was they didn't pay a single person to work there. There were no employees at all

Anyone remember Service Merchandise? The Sears Catalog Store was more fun because you never knew if you had it there or if they were going to have to order it and call you when it came in 3 days later. Yes, we happen to have a pair of those Toughskins sitting in the back. Oh sorry, no we don't have the socks. Yes, we have the lawnmower blade! No, not the frying pan.

back in the 60's,small country grocery stores in the Miss. delta had most small things behind counters or in glass display cases.....and...when bus loads of cotton choppers/field hands would stop at the store for lunch, they would only allow five of them at a time come into the store due to shoplifting...
