Im new to jig building and having an issue with my white Pro-tech. My other colors are looking really good but the white is very clumpy and I can not get it smooth. I dipped it the same way I have the others. I also have tried heating my heads to different temps but the same results. I have used both a heat gun and a torch but same results.
I am wondering if it is possibly a bad batch or if Im doing something wrong.

Hey there! Welcome to the jig-building world! 🎣👋

Bummer to hear that you're having trouble with the white Pro-Tec paint. It's strange that only white gives you issues while the other colors are working just fine. 🤔

First off, I'd recommend checking out this super helpful guide on CS Pro-Tec paints. It's got heat times that might help you get that smooth finish you're looking for.

Also, quick question: is the powder clumpy in the jar/container itself, or does it only get clumpy when you apply it to the jig? If the former it's possible it's a bad batch. Try pouring the powder into a zip lock sealed bag and crush it with your hands. Over time powder gets moisture and other particles causing it to clump, and get hard. It's worth it to grab a fresh batch most time.

If not the case, it's likely too little heat and too much powder.

Don't worry, you'll get to the bottom of this in no time!

Keep on jiggin'! 🐟✌️

Powder is a fine powder like the rest.
Im leaning toward bad batch, but I will check out the heat times.
Thank you for the info.

Are you using a fluid bed when your using your powder paint with the fluid bed you can adjust the amount of air flowing under the powder it puts on a much lighter coat of powder paint when dipping into the powders like white red pink blue or any of powder colors that have flake colors and pearl colors. You can get a more even finish using the fluid beds the above colors. I use a torch when I heating all my jig heads

My white and pearl both are thicker and more brittle than other colors.
I had the same issue with all the spike it paints that I tried.
My first impression was too hot which allows too much paint to stick to it, but I have not ever dialed it in. I prefer a matte finish and don't like gloss on my jig head.

Not using a fluid bed right now. I am building one.
I have some new paint on the way and that should tell me something, I hope.
Thanks for the help.

Are you heating them to set the paint after you dip? I always hang in a toaster oven after i dip and it seems to even out any issues with it being clumpy or thick. Also cures the paint to a maximum hardness. 10x’s more chip resistant that just using a torch and dipping them.

I have two commercial double door ovens with high speed fans built into the ovens to push the air around when I fire my jig heads they hold 1200 jigs pre over. 350 degrees for 40 mins. I powder coat multi color jig heads alot some I put up to 5 colors on a single jig head with one heat application before I fire them.
When firing the heads the fans push the hot air and make the powder paint come out with different swirl patterns on the jig heads. Every one comes out with a different pattern.

I do heat them in a toaster oven afterwards but they dont even out too well.
With that being said I did catch some on them this week. Its a great feeling to catch fish on a lure and a rod you built.
Bassjigging you jigs come out looking great.
