Most all residential wire is rated at 600 volts. Still nothinh to mess with. About 40 yrs ago I was working for a small elect const. company and we were building some power line.
The digger operator got the kelly of the Texoma 500 digger truck into a 69000 Volt line. He was physically ok but his swamperr didn't make it.
I guess you learn from others mistakes because the first thing I have always looked for when I pulled up on a location was where the overhead lines were. RIP Chad.

have seen the bucket on a backhoe hit a high voltage underground line while doing a hospital add on. plumber wanted to play electrician and couldn't wait.

there were about 8 of us waiting for the hole to be dug, he shortened our day considerably and shut the hospital down. seems he hit the main power line.
we were adding another genset for the new rehab center we were adding on.

there was one surgery going on, the hospital was not happy. luckily the backup generator caught the load or it could have been bad.

Wasn't on location at the time but a hydrovac truck boom hit a powerline a few yrs ago in Mentone. The company has a safety stand down for everybody in that field. It cut my day short. They said that the woman that got shocked/burnt was the operators wife. It didn't kill her but she would have a long road in front of her for recovery.

It's not the volts that gets you, it's the amps.

That’s what my shop teacher used to tell us.

Lost a nephew a couple years ago. Guy on the tractor got into the overhead lines.
My nephew was touching the tractor and it killed him instantly.
The guy driving the tractor was grounded and survived with no issues.

I wish I had taken pictures of my home brew ham amp.
The transformer was 3.5kv rated at 3/4 amp continuous and weighed around 80 pounds. I think I may still have it in the attic. I controlled the input voltage with a variac that looked like this. It had a 20" diameter.

The caps were rated at 5kv and when I bought them they were shunted so they could not build up a charge.
It worked but the output made everything in our house and houses around us go bonkers so I took it apart and bought a commercial amp.

The good ole days. I am lucky to have survived.

Rock hauler raised his cover into a power line, happened a couple of years ago right down from our plant. The driver jumped out and ran. Amazed that he did that and didn’t get electrocuted…

Not sure if anyone picked up on it, but that line is on a circuit board. The board came out of an old camera flash unit.

The white printing is about 3/4mm tall, and the entire image covers about 7.5mm (0.3 inches) across.
