I’m new to saltwater fishing but I want to learn. I’m planning a trip down to Galveston this summer to pier fish or off the bank some where. Any tips on where when and what bait to use. Not to concerned with what I catch really. But I do prefer reds and bigger fish. Have some buddies what will be coming with me and we just want to fish.

Get you a wade and paddle map of Galveston. Everything is dictated by the wind. If the surf is flat, fish that, if it's not, fish the bayside. Wading is much more productive than standing on dry ground. Long pants and lace up shoes are musts. Slide your feet don't stomp up and down. Bait will catch a lot of things you don't want, hardheads are particularly painful if one stabs you. Each day is different, so adjust with what you're being given. If you wake up and the surf looks like THIS, hit it hard. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/p4RzFJJ/620-beach.jpg)

Fish the surf in the summer if the water is decent color and the surf is small.. Good trout bite when it’s right. Throw a soft plastic such as a Bass Assassin Sea Shad in Chicken on the Chain on a 1/4oz jig head. Fish are in the first but at day light and move out to the second and then third gut. Usually slows way down after 9am.

Check out my son’s website. Bite and Fight Angler dot com. He lives in Alvin, TX and makes soft plastic baits for fishing in the gulf, bays, and marshes. He can tell you where they’re biting. To echo what Fishspanker said, Justin told me that wade fishing is HOT right now.

The beach front can be very productive, but be very careful. The currents can be tricky. You can also fish the jetty rocks with live shrimp under a cork. Maybe even ask the locals for some good spots. Good luck. Capt. Alan Galveston Fishing ChartersGalveston Bay Fishing Trips
