I have some old-school Berkeley 5.5 to 6 foot Bionix and Lightning Rod graphite rods with the pistol grips along with some of the newer, 7 foot rods but, I’m curious as to what the best lures to use with those short rods? I’ve got two medium heavies and one medium and I don’t know if those shorter rods would be better suited for spinnerbaits or jigs or worms or what, so any insight you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Kayak fishing on creeks and small rivers. One touch Zebco spin caster reel for the win. Ease of cast, short rod is better around overhanging branches. Easy to stow. just slip in rod holder or under bungy cords. I bring my lure right to the tip of the pole when stowed. River fish fight harder for their weight than lake fish IMHO.

I like to flip with both long and short Stix. I got a very old Gloomis GLX 6' in a medium weight that is awesome to flip docks and boathouse. Not what I use to flip heavy cover, but this short stick I can load it up and flip it as well and almost as far as anyone can cast anyway they wish. The little short 6' stick sure won me over and why I have had it nearly 30 years

I use a 5’9” heavy pistol grip that I use for spinner baits and a 5’8” MH that I fish a floating Rogue with. Short rods definitely have a place

Accuracy. Close in, among standing timber, hydrilla(if you can find it) especially with a spinner bait, top water or shallow crankbait. Perfect for the Jimmy Houston roll pitch cast for accuracy.
