I had not been out for a few weeks. I headed out just after noon today and quit around 3:30. I only hit 2 spots. 3 jug hump and spillway hump. Nothing on 3 jug but caught 50 on the east and west point of spillway hump. It was a combo mix of small sandbass, magnum sandbass, short hybrids and yellow bass. I got a order yesterday from Bob Maindelle of Holding the Line Guide Service. I placed the order just before noon on Saturday and the were in my mailbox on Monday. Thanks Bob! I used the original MAL lure in white for the first time. I caught the fish using Bob's 2 techniques. Saw tooth and smoking. The fish were in 17 to 22 FOW and the water temp was 69F.

Caught 50 in about 1.5 hrs yesterday on Crappie Island Flats in 24 to 26 fow. Look around with sonar and side scan just up out of the deeper water along the top of the flats. I could see them hugging the bottom on sonar and saw some good schools later on side scan. I used a #4 Mepps jigging on the bottom followed by lifting or reeling it up. Making a little noise helped bring them under the boat.

Thanks. The boat is still running about half power, so I stay close to home. Mechanic yesterday spent two hours troubleshooting the problem, and he said it is a bad starter switch. Hope to get new one installed early next week and have a fully operational boat.

Sometimes, just observing enthusiasm triggers you to action. I was waiting for the biscuits to cook early this morning, and a pontoon boat pulled right up to my dock and all 4 guys on it hopped up and started to cast in just about every direction. They kept at it for a good ten minutes with no one catching a fish. I remember those days as a working stiff who had only Saturday to fish and this was their Saturday. So, I felt compelled to offer help. Put on my shoes and walked out to the end of the dock and asked what they were fishing for. "Anything that bites," was their response. I said I knew where there were some good white bass spots and asked if they would like me to show them where they were. They said they would like that and said hop aboard. I said I have the electronics needed on my boat to find the fish and for them to follow me. I checked 3 spots close to the house and no fish there. Then I asked them to follow me to Long Ridge - about half a mile away. I found fish there and threw over a marker. They came up right beside me as I was catching fish. It slowed shortly so I went over to Long Ridge West and found a larger concentration. I had gotten their cell number and called them to come join me. I left them catching fish. They were very appreciative as I left to see if I could find more fish and then back to the house for biscuits and honey.

Great job Dennis. I am very certain you made their day. You are like the Lone Ranger. They probably said "who was that masked man?".

I caught 50 yesterday afternoon. I went out around noon and quit at 4:00. I looked at Key Ranch north, Long Ridge east and west, Sam's Hump, Spillway Hump and Tennis court in that order and only had 5 fish. I then headed up to the mid lake hump north of Prairie Creek and found them stacked using side scan in 14 FOW. I caught 45 in 1 hr 15 min. All of the fish came on the MAL original. Of the mix, I had several under hybrids and several magnum sand bass. I left them biting.

Some days fishing is tough. Some days fishing is ridiculous easy. My last 2 outings I had to work hard to catch 50 in my self imposed 4 hour window. In both cases I left them biting. Today it was stupid easy. I caught 110 in 3.5 hours. 55 came from spillway hump and 55 came from Merimac point. I left both places with the fish biting. I found large schools in a number of places in 18 to 20 FOW. I caught them fishing vertically as well as casting with a pause to let the lure sink back to the bottom on the retrieve. All fish were caught using the MAL original in white. I caught mostly keeper sandbass. I also caught some short hybrids, yellow bass and cats. I started fishing at 11:50 and headed back in at 3:20. I could have caught more but my arms were tired.
