I fish with braid/swivel/ mono leader. yesterday I had more fish pecking at the swivel than were interested in the jig. I have noticed this in the past, but for whatever reason it happened more yesterday than any other time. I tried downsizing my bait , but they still ignored it. They would swim right past the jig to the swivel . If I raised the bait to the fish , it would swim away. I am thinking about ways to weaponize the swivel. Any body ever try something like this with success ?

Try using a black sharpie or paint pen. I've done this in the past when pan fishing. It's also one of the reason I've switch to Spro Power Swivels as they are less shiny and have more of a matte finish.

easy, just lengthen your leader! don't overthink it.
you could also add some small blades for flash to you jig. they sell them separately (basically turns it into a custom road runner but you can use with any jig you want). if the fish wants the flash, give them a little flash closer to the hook!

My swivels are black, My neighbor fished the same set up , his are brass , color does't seem to matter.
I am not looking to discourage the behavior , but to take advantage of it, My first thought is a naked gold hook that will lie down beside the swivel.

I have a few jigheads with blades , I have used them , I can't tell that they get bit any better than regular heads.

Ditch that crappy braid and go to straight mono, problem solved. Did I mention I hate braid? 😂

Gamakatsu makes a drop shot hook that has a swivel built in to it. Not sure how small they go so that could be a problem.

Ditch the swivel and join the two lines with a double uni-knot. Its plenty strong!

MO Mo, I use a similar set up as use. 15lb yellow braid with a 6 to 8lb mono leader. I have some over achiever fish hit the swivel from time to time but making it a bit longer helps. The swivel is pretty important to keep the line from twisting up using a jig. I have enough issues with the wind getting my line caught up in my reel and tip of the rod. And even though the dang line is yellow it still on occasion gets caught up in the trolling motor. Also, if I get hung up and can't get it out I only lose my jig and it is a quick retie to put a new one on.

Ditch the swivel and join the two lines with a double uni-knot. Its plenty strong! ive tried that before and the braid cuts the mono,, I just got tired of dealing with all of the problems that come along with braid and threw the [censored] away,, ha
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Try straight braid in 15-20lb size. That will prevent the braid from slipping through the eyelet.

I have had that happen and had them peck at the split shot also. A swivel with a fly might be the ticket.
