Most are spawned out but there are the usual amount of deep spawners. I’m hearing 5-15 ft is the best depth right now

Fish are in all stages on Lavon right now, 1-24 feet and hungry,if you can’t catch crappie at Lavon right now sell all your fishing gear or hire a guide.

Caught them in 14-18 feet yesterday. I noticed that a few still had eggs. Overall they were smaller than what I expected. Will try deeper water on structure next week.

I remember about 2-3 years ago around this time I went out one weekend in early may and it was slim pickings, the next weekend we put 50 in the boat in about 3 hours. The following weekend took three people and put 75 in the boat, basically every week until the end of June it was a limit for every person who stepped foot on the boat. This year was a little cooler, so probably a little early for them to stack up. May and June are the best months on that lake. Soon every piece of structure in 8-18’ of water will be stacked with slab crappie. I do remember one year in may when everyone thought the spawn was over I was still stacking the boat hitting lay downs and trees in 5-8’, so don’t be afraid to look a little shallow still, but in the next two months those post spawn fish will be hungry. PS, there has been a major black crappie boom on that lake here in the last 2-3 years, 7-8 years ago you never caught a black crappie, in the last 2-3 years I’ve had times when I’ve caught more black crappie than white crappie in a limit. FYI, black crappie tend to sit on different structures, try ANY type or structure you find. I’ve also had a lot of times when I’ve looked everywhere and not found fish, then you find that one piece of structure that loads the boat. Keep looking, there’s tons and tons of places to fish on that lake. They oftentimes aren’t sitting as deep as you would expect out there.

You are right about the black crappie. They used to be scarce but they are taking over. Back in January. All the deep structure was covered with black crappie. Here is a pic. Lavon is fishing great right now. I have been keying on 12-22 fow the last few trips. [Linked Image]

Went out Thursday, started fishing about 11:30. for the first few hours it was hard finding anything that would bite, around 2:00 they turned on.
They were in 12-15 feet of water around stumps or brush piles, color of jigs didn't seem to matter.
Anything less that 12 feet and I could not get a bite.
I managed to catch 10 keepers and cooked them Friday evening, they were good.
Only one had eggs, the rest were spawned out.

I'm going to go out there Monday or Tuesday while the wind is lower and still relatively cool. I'm curious if ya'll fish both the east and west major branches of the lake. I've focused mostly on the east side but I'm curious about the west branch over near the Lucas area about the Brockdale launch. I'm just not that familiar with it but it's got to hold some good fish.
