As far as I know, every single one of my boats is still on the water. Ran into the guy who bought my '85 boat, it's still going strong. Motor is still tight, and runs flawless.

If you break them in right, and keep good liquids in them, they'll run a very long time. It's the boats that have sat a long time, or were babied around are the ones that cause the most problems.

Worst motor I've bought in a while might have had five hours on it, 90 Yamaha that was on the lifeboat on a 125' yacht. That motor almost broke me, every piece of electrical needed replacing, and it never ran up to expectations.

I’d never buy anything previously owned by someone who knew they weren’t going to keep it long term.

I have done it twice. Both times the boat abd motor were flawless for as long as I owned the. Would do so again a heartbeat. Damn good way to save some serious cash.

Also bought an outboard from an Elite pro. It was great.

They all come with a warranty that starts when you title the boat, you can extended the warranty if you choose also... All boats and motors are a crapshoot... I purchase a 2015 Ram 1500 that had 12,000+ miles on it, looked like it rolled off the showroom floor the day I took delivery. When I sold it in 2021 it had a 115,000+ miles and most of those were put on towing my bass boat around. The only things I replaced were tires, oil and filters and a part that had something to do with heating system that took me 20 minutes to do myself... Dan

Thanks for all the wonderful input. I have a nice 2005 Skeeter and it runs great, but I would love to get something a little bigger. I plan to retire in the next 4 to 5 years and will not be able to afford an upgrade after that and I’ve come across a couple opportunities with guides, and as someone said, it can save you a lot of cash.
