During a hail storm (while I was on the water) my 2020 Skeeter FXR21’s fiberglass fenders got beat up. I just got off the phone with the insurance company and the estimate they gave me was roughly $3,500, which was more than they felt the trailer is worth. They will cut a check for that, but the trailer will not be able to carry insurance moving forward. I would love to hear someone’s thoughts that has been down this road before on what you did.

I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THIS…how much does a new trailer cost and/or does someone know of a place that sells them at a good price?

Thanks in advance!

I'll give you $3,500 for that trailer. I bet a new one is $7,500.

If the insurance company is paying the full current value for the trailer ($3,500) then they can consider it a total loss and take the trailer. So the first thing you need to do is to insure that you can keep the trailer if they give you the $3500. You need to confirm the current value of the trailer. If you can keep the trailer then get it fixed and find another company to insure the trailer after you return it to the original condition.

You are correct, they have deemed it a total loss and said that I can keep the trailer. Appreciate your advice. 👍🏼

Cheaper to replace the fenders than do the glass work. That plus labor is where the number comes from. The rest of the trailer is fine. Honestly, I could manage leaving it the way it is…but I don’t like the fact of not having coverage on it now.

Sounds like your insurance company doesn't have a clue what that trailer cost.

If you leave it damaged it will be considered a loss, but if you get it repaired you should be able to get it insured up to the current used value.

I would consider that a stroke of good luck for my trailer. I HATE the fiberglass fenders on my fx21. I would love to replace them with a stainless fender that is flat on top. I priced them a while back. Stock teardrop fenders were around $650 each. Mine has smaller tires than yours though. So yours would probably be a little more. Install really isn't that hard.

So they are totaling your trailer which means that will effect your trailer title, u'll have to disclose that when u sell it

For $3500 I doubt I would claim that, they just gonna get that money+ back from you in the next 5 years, and it will make selling your boat tougher.

I bet u could replace the fenders for less than that, I could be wrong, in 2020 I was able to get a fiberglass fender from the dealer for $700 for my Nitro. took a few months to receive it , but not that bad.

I replaced a fender on my Ranger in April. I ordered a new one from Ranger, took them 4 weeks to build it and ship to me. It was simple to bolt on and connect the wiring. Cost for it was $960.

I’d check with skeeter for replacement fenders.

If they let you keep the (clean) title, just replace both fenders and change insurance companies.

I believe if they total the trailer you will get a salvage title, I would take the money and either fix it, leave it as is and get me a live scope lol. I don't think having a salvage title on the trailer would be that big of a deal.

It should not be a big deal, but when people hear and see salvage title, it will make some move on.

If they are letting you keep the trailer, then the $3500 is the actual cash value less the salvage value. Ask the insurance company what the total actual cash value you would receive if THEY took the trailer
