Would you buy a 1 year old boat from a guide or pro. I’ve heard people say no because they don't take care of them. From the ones I have been around, seems they take very good care of them. What would be the pros and cons? So what day you ol wise TFF?

Just like any other used boat. Some are cared for and some aren't. Guides and Pro's to rack up a lot of engine hours would be the only thing different and that shouldn't be a concern as most are usually at idle speeds from graphing.

That’s kind of what I was thinking.

Nope. They beat the shart out of them, then demand a high price. Neither would I buy a used Hertz Rental car for the same reason. No incentive for them to use them normally.

I bought one, had about 150 hours on it. 1.5 years old. It was a good boat. No issues other than a lower unit or 2. Sold it at 600 hours. I'd be more likely to buy one from guide than tournament pro.

If the pro is repping for that boat brand they usually keep them as presentable as they can. I've seen guides take excellent care of their rigs, and I've seen guides trash them in short order. You just have to take reasonable measures to check it out.

A buddy of mine bought a boat (Ranger) from Brian Duplichain (SP last name, Lake Fork guide) maybe 8 years ago and it has been a great boat. As has been said, it all depends on how the owner took care of it.

No; buy one from an old crappie fisherman that only used it for five years until he couldn’t fish any more. They spend all their time anchored in deeper water and don’t run up on shallow stumps/rocks/rebar

What would be the pros and cons? So what day you ol wise TFF? Had one of Dannie Golden's boats one time. No issues that any other boat would not have had. He had clearly taken great care of the boat when he had it. I don't have any particular pros or cons to share, but if the boat looks maintained and well kept, I wouldn't have any problems buying a guide's boat, again.

Some of the pros have their boat sold before season starts. They take a deposit and you can pick the color. Because they wrap it. . Good business move.

I'd have no problem buying a pro boat, guide boat not so much. Pros that are meticulous about their gear and electronics would be my first nod. Guides have the average Joe in them that care less about the guides boat.
Aaron Marten (RIP) has sold several of his boats at dealerships where I've been able to walk around them. His boats looked like they rolled off the showroom. I've seen a G-Man boat before and it also was loaded to the hilt and in great condition. Brett Ehler is another stickler for equipment.
One boat that I was surprised to see, was at a CA boat dealership. It looked like it was never cleaned, the electronics were stripped out by a 5 year old, and you could see battle scars. They had it listed as a "Pro Boat" from MLF. From the time when they were "sharing" boats and only certain brands were allowed to be used.

Guide would be ok for right price given hours, a pro definitely no. Every pro I’ve seen takes off about full throttle on a cold motor- definitely not good for it.
