I am getting back to tying flies and jigs. I have a couple of cheap old vices that are getting worn out. I'm curious what vices others are using and any recommendations you have. I'm debating on getting a fairly inexpensive one vs a high quality one. Given that it will mostly be used for tying jigs is it worth spending $$ on a higher quality vice or not? I know you get what you pay for but....

Lots of choices, but I would highly recommend it be rotary...I use a Peak, some love it some don't.

I have been using the clamp on style. Is the pedestal one better or easier to use?

I have been using the clamp on style. Is the pedestal one better or easier to use? I`ve used the clamp before & it was okay but it didn`t have the ROTARY functionality & this function makes tying more precise for me because when I want to tie on my chennile or thread I just rotate the handle instead of winding the material.I find that it makes for a tighter jig. Someone else may have better reasons & i`m open to hear them.
