Good evening TFF, wanted to ask for some assistance in catfishing on Lewisville from the bank. Lewi is my home lake and I am an avid bass fisherman on it but looking to get more into catfishing on it. Have had luck in the past catching channels using a Carolina rig with a size 1 circle hook with hot dogs but have recently been having trouble getting any bites. Any advice is appreciated!

Go super shallow 1-5 ft and cast around flooded grass or stickups with a little wind blowing on it. Send a few long but don’t be scared to fish right up next to shore where they will be running with this warm up this week. If you see a bunch of white egrets standing at shores edge spear fishing then fish it in 1-2 ft. Shad will be spawning the next few weeks and all species will move up shallow and feed on them. . Channel Cats will be spawning on the rip rap very soon so slip bobber and just about any bait will work if you’re in the right area. Catfishing is easy to do and difficult to master.

There is a fine line between fishing and floating around like an idiot!!

My buddy told me using cut bluegill or raw chicken on windblown banks near where a creek comes out is the key to catching. I have not gone for cats but sound advice to my thinking. Also try a dip bait, I have rarely caught anything big on them but channel cats love that stuff.

Shovel head will be extremely shallow this time of year. If you walk the banks, you might even see their backs exposed to the air while they feed on snails and minnows on the bank in heavy cover... mimmick the prey with soft plastics. Catch them on beetle-spins and nightcrawlers with no weight on the edge of a weed bed.. remember- all catfish are predators first and scavengers second.

Get yourself a cast net and use cut bluegill or shad as bait. If you are unable to purchase or throw a cast net, buy some worms and find a spot to catch a bunch of bluegill. For bank catfishing at Lewisville I like fishing the old dam. You have 2 sides you can fish. If the shad are spawning, check out the sandy side (left side). After the spawn and the water heats up I like to move to the rocky side where the water is deeper. I will typically throw 2 lines shallow up in the rip rap and 2 further out.

Worst case scenario, you can go to an Asian market and buy a common carp whole and use it as cut bait. I have done this many times.

Yep! Rip rap is getting hot with good size kitties on cut shad on bobber!

I used to live on lake Lewisville before Little Elm exploded.
I lived at the end of Shahan's Prairie road where it ran into the lake,
That was core land then so I assume it still is. I went by there a few years ago
and there is one of them million dollar mansions sitting right where I used to live!
Anyways, this time of year, if there was a south wind blowing I would literally
slaughter the fish on that point every morning. Every wave would cover the bank with shad
so getting bait was a joke. Just bend over and pick up a shad. The fishing action was so
fast I could only use one pole. I have no idea if this is still the case or even if you can access
that point now but if I was going to bank fish Lewisville that would be the first place I would
check out. Good luck.
