I guess I'm gonna be that guy. My son and I bass fish a lot but we'd also like to get in to Alligator Gar fishing. Where are some good areas to fish near Weatherford? Not looking for specific spots, just a general idea of where we might target some.

Most of what I've seen on the interwebs has all been bank fishing. Can you target them from a boat? We have a bass boat. Or would it be better to use the boat to get you to different areas and still bank fish.

Thanks in advance!

Alligator gar are found in the Trinity River, but most of the consistent fishing for alligator gar is down the watershed toward the coast. Longnose gar, and spotted gar are found in most of the lakes and rivers in north Texas in fishable numbers. Most of them are caught by accident, but they can be targeted at certain times of the year.
