How often is a person truly celebrated in their life and made to feel special? Even if it's for a minute, an hour, a day? Most people aren't that lucky to feel like they matter...to anyone. I try to always make my friends and family feel important, but I know many people who don't ever feel like they matter. So, taking 15 seconds out of one's day to send a text, or take 10 minutes to make a call, just to let them know you love them and that they matter...that's why I do it.
Oh, and Mud, I would advise against your suggestion...as well as asking where you were conceived. You don't want to know.

Why do we celebrate birthdays? It is absolutely meaningless. The actual day of your birth was pretty important, I'll give you that. But every year thereafter you are celebrating the absolute minimum a person has to do in life... not die.
Now starting around 80 or so, those people have actually accomplished something by not expiring. I'm all about celebrating an accomplishment at that point. But otherwise don't expect me to acknowledge your mediocrity when you have survived another 365 days. Yeah, I don't need reminding. Big deal for kids, but everyone else gets a phone call. I think we should ask parents the hard question and pinpoint the date of conception and celebrate that day. I know. Those two times were really something for me.

We were poor and my parents were rarely around for birthdays, so they don't mean much to us. However, the wife's side of the family they go nuts for birthdays.

I dunno...I agree with Spags - I really enjoy celebrating birthdays for wife/kids/mom/etc.
We got my dad a set of Laramie wheels and new tires for his Ram 1500 for his 75th birthday. His bday was in August but we had a trip planned and gave them to him a few months early. He loved those things so much. Got to where anytime he was leaving wal-mart or lowes, he would take a pic of his truck and text me "good looking truck! love these wheels!". He was on a ventilator with covid on the actual day he turned 75. The joy he got out of those for just a few months is something I take a lot of solace in.
Not to say that you have to have a bday to make someone feel special, but it doesn't hurt to have a good reminder/excuse every now and again.

Birthdays have turned into where my 50 bucks, yes we are broken
call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.
