I have a 21ft Pontoon with a Lowrance HDS Gen 3 and a Xi5 TM. I assume the GPS unit is inside my Lowrance unit and what I am seeing is from the transducer at the rear. I fish from the front of my boat and when I mark a waypoint (brush pile / fish) and use the TM to go back to that waypoint I end up having to hunt down that spot I just wanted to fish. Is there a way to calibrate the GPS with an offset or something like that? Would I need to mount my transducer up front, which still leaves the until about 12ft behind the front of the boat. Maybe buy another Lowrance unit and mount it up front using the built in transducer in the TM? Technology drives me nuts sometimes. There has to be a better way and if anyone would know it would be the fine folks on the TFF.

If you have a hand held control for your TM you have 8 way point settings on it for your TM. And yes a graph up front with two D on your TM helps a bunch

Just get a smaller graph with a transducer to stick on the TM. I wouldn’t get another trolling motor. Xi5 will work fine for spotlock on a pontoon. Can get a HDS 7 and link it to your console graph to share your waypoints.

Best solution is buy another Lowrance unit, mount upfront and use the 2D on the troll motor. You can link to the Gen3 Lowrance with an ethernet cable and the waypoints marked on your current Lowrance will show up on the front unit. If you marked the BP with SI, the waypoint should be over the BP and the WP that shows on the front unit will be over the BP. If you marked them using the rear transducer and were not exactly over the pile, the WP may be off slightly but the BP should show up on the 2D unit up front. You don't need an expensive 2D unit, but at least a 7" screen minimum. 9" is much better.
Slewfoot's post reminded me the new unit make come with a DI transducer. If so, you will have DI and 2D with the transducer. I'd make sure the transducer that comes with the unit is a troll motor transducer. There will be mounting hardware with the transducer for the TM but a transducer made specifically for theTM has more insulation to block elec interference. You may be able to swap the transducer that comes with the unit for a TM transducer.

Your xi5 and the lowrance can be connected to “ talk to each other”. I used to do a “go to” from my lowrance hds9 on the console and my xi5 would go to those exact co- ordinates and spot lock right over my marked spot that’s loaded in the lowrance. . A buoy marker helps tremendously too as far as keeping in touch with where the pile is if you do navigate all around it.

What you need is a GPS puck for you unit. Mount the puck back by the transducer and connect to your unit. Then when you mark a spot that you see on the unit the GPS will be reading right next to your transducer.

You guys are awesome! All the info is much appreciated. Looking up a puck GPS now. Been tossing around the idea of a Garmin livescope for up front also. It's only money right?

The transducer location determines what you see, the unit location determines the actual waypoint , unless you have an external antenna. In a perfect world , your antenna would be right above your transducer.
good luck

I bought an 12" HDS Live and a Point 1 GPS puck. Now I need to find out if the AT2 is worth double the price of the original. Thanks again for everyone's advice. My wife my not have appreciated it but I do!

I don't think the AT2 is compatible with the LIVE without buying a "blackbox". You need the LIVE PRO for the AT2, atleast that's what Lowrance told me.
