Lightning Kayaks have been around for about 5 years now seems like. Their first kayak (The Strike) was pretty much a swing and a miss. Not many bought them. I recently saw one for sale in my area for $1200 and the ad was there for at least a month. They have horrible resale. They also use what I believe is the Hobie second gen pedal drive system which is getting close to a 15 year old design. Still works but nowhere close to the newer Hobie pedal drive systems in terms of performance and efficiency. The lack of success on the Strike could dampen the sales of this new model but I do think the Nomad will sell better than the Strike did because the Nomad is a knock off of the original Hobie Outback hull design that was so popular for so many years. Hobie went away from that Outback design in 2019 and many didn’t and still don’t like the newer design. This Nomad hull design works really well in many types of water including offshore. I wouldn’t buy one because of the pedal drive but I think they will have better success with the Nomad than the Strike.
You get out of it what you put into it!
