Has anyone used a Zebco Bullet? I want to train my boy with a bait caster but I feel that might be a disaster.

This is a crazy thread.
I pulled out two old 33’s this weekend to rebuild for the wife.
I’m talking probably twenty years old.
Those things were casting better than my bait caster.

To the OP,
Your problem is decades old.

Twenty years isn’t old for a Zebco. I fish with some from my childhood that are 50 years old. roflmao Oh no - I guess that makes me old. bang

They were probably made in USA back then and built a little better.

Gotta hold the line with your fingers. The diawa push button is way better. I had many a good memories with a zebco, will never bad talk then as it was all I had as a kid.

Back in 1958 at age 10 I can't remember a better feeling than fighting five-pound carp with my Zebco push button reel. Unless it might be sitting in my go cart when the engine was fired up!

I would get an Ugly Stik. They are pretty much indestructible.

I guess I'm really old, I can remember a time when that was all there was, closed face reels. The open bait casters were around but you hardly ever saw someone fishing with them. The premium grade reels were the Zebco 33, the Johnson Century, and ABU Garcia 170. I have the first two and use the Johnson Century to pitch finesse jigs. I have it mounted on a five and a half foot medium action Ugly Stick and it will launch jig about as far back in a pocket or under a dock as you want to go.

Just for fun…right!? I would never put myself at that kind of avoidable disadvantage in a tournament. Might as well use a Peter Pan combo. roflmao

I fished with these as a kid and it was so easy but today was a pain. I don’t remember these being a problem but it’s been a long time. Is this normal or is it defective? User error?

Just teach him how to use a spinning reel.

All this talk about a cheap zebco. Throw it away and buy another problem solved. If you spent a bunch of money on it you wasted the coin..
