Fellas I am heading up to Lake Meredith this Sunday for a week of fishing. Wife and I are staying at our favorite little B&B nearby and while she lays in a hammock drinking wine and reading I am going to be taking the Kayak out on Meredith.
I have scouted the Lake once (drove all around, down the dirt roads etc) but never fished it. Was thinking about launching from Bugbee Canyon and fishing that area for Bass and would LOVE to catch my first ever Walleye. That said I will fish for anything that is biting usually. Not too particular.
Open to launch anywhere, just that Bugbee canyon area looked like a great spot to put in a yak from.
Any tips, reports, advice, comments, old stories, jokes etc. etc. would be greatly appreciated!
In return I wont leave yall hanging after, I will provide a full report and maybe even some live updates! I hate when guys ask for info for a trip coming up then never report back how it was. Not here. I am a giver!
Thanks yall and God bless!

Sorry I can’t help with the fishing but can provide a little information on the lake. Expect wind and lots of it. The lake gets really bad with 25+ mph winds. The water will be much colder than here in North Texas.
Bugbee should be protected from the wind and probably real close to your B&B. If the wind is not terrible you can put in at several places on the south side. Harbor Bay, Fritch Fortress, Cedar Canyon, and Sanford Yake(Dam).
Look up Let’s Fish TV on YouTube. Barry Stokes did a show on Meredith a couple of years ago. He caught a lot of Walleye.

Thanks! Great info.
Yup I am familiar with the wind there. Its brutal. Forecast as of now... windy! But not terrible. 10-20 I thought Bugbee canyon would be good for a south wind but looking close that canyon seems to run North South almost to the tee so we will see.
I have seen that Episode on You Tube. He was slaying walleye! Picked up some good ideas from that show and some other You Tube vids. Seems trolling from the Yak might be a good option for Walleye and Bass as well perhaps.
dont run over any boaters and good luck! Curious to see if you get any walleye
Ha. I will be sure to not hit any boats... as I am bobbing along, with my max speed of 4.3mph.
I am curious as well if I get any walleye. Never got one before and this seems like a great shot. Read somewhere this should be about spawn time for them so they may be pretty shallow but who knows. I am not that familiar with the ways of yankee fish.
What are the ramps like for a bass boat? I wouldn't mind running up there and checking it out sometime. Dan, would you mind snapping a few photos of the ramps/docks?

Sure. If I head to one. Launching the yak I don't usually use ramps but if I decide to mosey over to any I will snap some shots. I think one of them has live bait so that one may be visited for sure.
Last time I was there I drove down the Sanford-Yake ramp and it was nice. Very good shape. Plenty good for bass boats. Matter of fact it was summer and there were about 100+ boats of all types there proving the worthiness of that particular ramp. They had filled the overflow parking even... long walk up a steep hill for the guy parking the truck.
I live in Amarillo and go to Meredith frequently. The water temp is 51 to 58 right now. Bugbee is a good creek for all species and should be good to launch a kayak. Jerkbaits and shallow cranks for bass and jigs tipped with minnows for crappie and walleye. Watch the weather forecast as the wind can hit very quick. Squib as far as ramps go Sanford Yake and Fritch Fortress are the best to unload a boat. Give us a good report, If your staying at Three Falls Cove B&B it is very nice.

Man great info thank you!
Yes that is where we are staying. This will be our 6th time staying there but first time its not just for an overnight on the way someplace else. That is the destination. We love it there... Shhhhhh its getting hard to find openings. She gets pretty booked up.
Actually that place sucks. Not worth it lol. DO NOT go there.
Bugbee is a great option be sure to hit the rock piles in the water multiple times. Just put a new 250 Yamaha 4 stroke on and going thru break in. Water temp above is accurate, should get warmer as we go overnight last night was 50. As said crankbait is good and spinnerbait also. Manages these two breaking in. Smallie population also, senko might be working when you are here. Rick piles have alswaya produced for me.

Nice green fish and man that is a chunk of a Smallie. I would take a few those!
Is there flooded brush in the water? That is what I think when I think spinnerbaits. Good idea on the senkos. Will bring a bag for sure.
Congrats on the new motor. I bet you will like that engine really well sir!
There is brush/trees in the water on east side of bugbee and around the rock piles. Lake is going down so the brush/trees have been in the water for at least three years. I do love the new 4 stroke!!!!
Launched my kayak this morning from the bank in Bugbee canyon. It was too windy to do much trolling around for walleye like I intended. Ended up seeking shelter near the banks and fishing shallow. Moving baits. The wind was really ripping so couldn't really fish anything slow or even moderately slow.
Caught 5 lmb in 4 hours before the wind really cranked up and ran me off the lake!
Biggest was about 4lbs. Had 3 on a jerkbait and 2 on a spinnerbait. Basically just banging the banks in the spots that you would expect people to bang the banks in.
Was a lot of fun, I like the lake. The fish all hit and fought like bulls! Look forward to giving it another shot tomorrow morning!
I saw a picture of a 10# bass caught recently at Meredith, that is pretty unusual but does happens. Try a red rattletrap on the east bank for smallmouth. The mouth of Bugbee on east side is a popular walleye spot. Around the visible island west side is another walleye spot. I hate the wind is forecast to blow everyday this week. You can also launch at the marina ramp by dam but would be limited to South canyon which also has bass and walleye.
