We deployed there in 84 or 85. We went to a restaurant in a hotel that served the finest steaks I've ever seen. Wish I could remember the name. SAC life. banana

I have outlived most of my favorite dives:

The original Herrera's on Maple Avenue in Dallas.
Hole in the Wall on Harry Hines in Dallas.
Guey Sam's in Chicago's Chinatown.
The Original Hot Dog Shop just off the Pitt campus in Pittsburgh

Gone but not forgotten.

Hole in the Wall on Harry Hines was greatness.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

Main St Cafe on Cooper in Arlington was great...and now it's gone. I love Coyote Bluff in Amarillo! That place is AWESOME!

It was on Camp Bowie and it was the best.

Chateau Briand was served at a hotel on west 80 towards Dyess. That's the only hotel I can think of that served that kind of meal back then. Joe Allen's was real good back then, Harold's BBQ was the bomb! Never had hot cornbread like Harold's.

It wasn't far from the base. So damn good.

A platter of sirloin for 4, a couple of stacks of onion rings and a few pitchers of beer sure made for some fine dining!

I always ate at Perini Ranch, Zentners Daughters, and Joe Allen’s when I went to Abilene, but none were in a hotel. I think Zentners is closed now after a long run.

The original Zenrners on Beauregard in San Angelo was greatness and would qualify as a dive. Steaks cooked on a flat top grill in garlic butter, and they were so good. I could walk there for lunch from 1981-83 and did so about twice a week.

Family is everything!

Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.
