Does anyone know why Amistad is dropping so fast? At this rate we will all be launching up the Devils again by June...

Mexíco uses the water for the farmers and nobody there cares about boats & fishing.

Last I heard was the spring releases and they are planning to fix some of the leaks in the dam and sink holes in the surrounding areas.

So then it looks like it will be an even deeper draw down that the usual spring thing?

Very reliable source informed me a month ago that Amistad has to be taken all the way down to where only the river channel remains in order to repair the dam. I'll let you guess where all that water is going. Amistad is letting out 1/2 ft of water a day.

What stinks is that every year they draw us down first.. Right after the spawn taking whatever little cover we had out of the water..

Now Amistad is being drawn down right during/after the spawn there as well..

Fishing is not on IBWC's radar..

Every year I hear they are going to do dam repairs at Amistad.. So I have never put too much stock in the stories..

I have scrubbed the web and have found nothing on the matter.. One would think that if they were planning on "Draining the Lake" some announcement would be made..

But then it is a Gov't entity so there's no telling WTF they might do..

Last summer the lake caught nearly 25 feet of water if not more. Today it’s back down to 7 feet of where it was at this time last year. If that’s not piss poor management of a precious water resource then I don’t know what is. You can’t count on too many 25 foot rises.

Look at the lake levels in northern Mexico across from the Big Bend and wander why they are not releasing some water, I think we should take over the country.

Is this a state, federal, or some other authority who controls flow through the dam?

I was on a call, that the IBWC was on, earlier this week and they stated that the plan was to continue to drop the lake 6" a day until May 14. There was no mention of repairs, just the normal spring release to Falcon for irrigation purposes.
Expect the lake to drop another 15' before the release is slowed.

If this is the senerio by the time Bass Champs comes Box Canyon should be closed and the lake will be down to Diablo and Rough Canyon.
