Just got back form a quick trip to Lake Dorothey in CO. I wanted to take the tube out and decided this was a good day to get to the mountains. It was pretty windy which make float tube fishing hard but I gave it a go. Found out really quick that I had developed small leaks in both my waders and tube. I managed about 3 hrs on the water before the wind and cold water in the foot of my wader drove me off the water.

The water was extremely cold, there are still patches of snow under the trees, and the bite was slow. Normally a silver Kastmaster is deadly on this lake but today it only produced one strike. I played around a little and found out that a Thomas Buoyant in rainbow trout finish was the ticket. I think it was the blue on the lure that made the difference. I ended up with about 10 fish and kept these for the table.

The bottle is there for size comparison. That is a 16 oz bottle and I'm guessing the bottle is about 9 inches. This means the fish run from about 15 inches to 18-19 inches. They are all good solid fish. If you look at the fish on the right you will notice it has a different spot pattern and the tail is a little different. This is a rainbow/cutthroat hybrid. Such a fish is known as a cutt-bow and they occur naturally in places that have both species. I have never caught a cutthroat in the lake itself but I have caught them in the creek that flows into it.

All in all it was a good day but I need to do some patching on the waders and tube before I go out again.

Cheers Y'All
