I have been fishing Rowlett Creek a couple of times a week for the last couple - yesterday being my most recent. Lots of little males, but haven't seen many big females push up yet, at least as far up as I tend to fish. Using #12 pet spoons and a 2" fluke on a 1/16 oz or 1/32 oz bonehead jig is my go to. I hadn't seen many Rowlett Creek updates, but there's mine! Hope that helps someone.

Seems we are having a late spring this year. My trees have not leaf out yet and we are almost into April.

It's been a quite strange year. My experience, and posts from many others is that the big females haven't shown up on the Trinity creeks above Livingston or the San Jacinto creeks above Lake Houston. Spring is in full bloom here. My question is will they show up at all?
Thanks for sharing.

I think a lot more fish spawned earlier this year than most realize. I was catching spawned out females in late feb here in north texas. With all the rains, I think they have had plenty of current to get the job done. I don't think its over but I think we are at least half way done with it this year.

It’s been an off year for the sandbass run and yes, most fish did show up late. There’s only one creek where I caught fish earlier than the second week of March, and that particular creek always runs early. A lot of the creeks they just showed up about 2 weeks ago. Even then it’s just been a slow spring for fishing. Weird year.

I have seen many balls of fry in some of the known spawning areas of creeks so no doubt there has already been a pretty good amount of spawning that has taken place.

Seems every time I go, it just gets slower and slower. Water has cooled off some but we will see if another wave comes up soon. No Hybrids in my normal spots so far this year either

Been to creeks around Garland and also in Denton.
Same story A month ago it looked like it was starting , then temps went up and down, some rain but not a lot.
Water never looked like it cleared up .
When fish were appearing they seemed pretty big. There was no wave of little males first.
I describe this year with the word SOME.
There were some good weather days. Some fish were caught. Some big ones. Some people at the creeks .
No big rush of fish in the creeks, or people out fishing.
Wonder if it has to do with full lake levels and creeks levels a little high. Did they not come up and people catching them spawning at lake shores?
Its getting really late to hope that more fish are coming. I'm thinking this year is kind of a dud. Enjoy what fish you can find and hope next year is better.
it seems every fish is a hybrid until its landed.
see also is it a hybrid / I think its a hybrid

"Some" is a great word to describe what I have found as well. I'll give it another couple trips to see if any hybrids move up (I have, what has been in past years, and excellent hybrid hole), but other than that, I think it's back to the main lake for me!

Fished yesterday for about 2 hours in the late afternoon and caught 4 sandbass - only 1 keeper. It was a slow day. Last week on Friday, I had more success. The weather has been up and down so I'm wondering if that's affecting the spawn or is the spawn over?

I think they are done and spawned during all the warmth and floods we had early in march

I have no clue. I went multiple days in a row to different locations. I went late February, didn’t find squat, went after the first rain around the 10th of March, found a few, went back during the second or third rain around the 25th of march, and I didn’t even as much as get a nibble, I even went to a creek that’s usually super clear and you can usually see a few fish, and I didn’t see anything in there, not a single sandbass. It should be peak spawn right now, I’ll probably go try some off my off the beaten path spots, see what I can drum up here now that the weather has stabilized a little bit. Got some spots that run later. There’s no way it’s “over” everywhere, it’s only early April. But we’ll see, regarding rowlett creek, the lack of fish may have something to do with the gates being open at lavon for some time, those fish will divert when the gates are open during sandbass run time because of heavier flows.

Just an FYI about 90% of the Sandbass I caught in the main lake this morning still had not spawned. There’s still hope lol.
