So my truck went apechit a week ago on the hwy at 65 mph. Stalled and sputtered a couple times then my right front brake apparently engaged all by itself with my foot on the gas and swerved me off onto the shoulder. Luckily I was in the right lane of US87 and no traffic. This Lead Frame sensor thing is inside ther transmission amd apparently senses and dispalys engine RPM, Vehicle Speed, Gear Position of the purndle, and apparently is involved somehow in the ABS system.
The mechanic I use called me and said the part from Ford is going through an engineering change or some other problem like maybe due to chip shortage - who knows the reason. He's had one on Backorder since Jan 25th and unavailabe with no date. I was lucky and mine did not fail to start which others have been stuck with a no starting truck. The lock out for the ignition switch on some trucks would not recognize park or neutral to let the ignition switch start the engine. I feel lucky that didn't happen and I saved the cost of a wrecker
I asked about aftermarket availability and turns out Dorman is making them and my guy can get one transfered from another store and have it here in a couple days. SO after all this back story, if you were me would you have the Dorman part put in, save me a hundo or 2, and get my truck back in a 3 or 4 days for $994.50, or wait who knows how long to get my truck back with the genuine FoMoCo factory updated part? My gut tells me that whoever is building them for Dorman found the defect, found a fix and source for components and was able to get this out to market. While Ford is going through all the corporate BS and channels for R&D then all the procurement process and "supply chain issues".

I’d wait on the Ford part.

Id trade that truck in on a new one, or get the aftermarket part put in if you aren’t ready for a new truck.

call planet 635 ford in garland and ask for parts mgr.
they have a huge service shop so they keep a ton of stuff in stock, being a 12 I give it a 50/50
if not then put the dorman in and be done with it, ford probably got the part from the same factory.

We buy aftermarket parts all the time. Rarely have seen any issue with them.

Thanks Everyone for the input! how bad do you need the truck? Bad enough that I can't be using borrowed vehicles for 2 or 3 more months. Before I thought of asking about aftermarket, I was considering buying a beater of some sort that I could get my $ back out of and sell it after my truck is fixed. It only has 119K miles on it and other than this has been pretty darn reliable. Id trade that truck in on a new one, or get the aftermarket part put in if you aren’t ready for a new truck. Not in the cards for trading in on a new one unfortunately. This one paid off and at the most, I might look at trading in on a later model with less miles. I'll call them to see if they have the part, but I'm 300 miles from there. I lived about 5 miles from there for 30+ years and very familiar with them. Probably not for something like this sensor that lives inside the transmisson. Labor, fluid, gasket, etc is around $800 at shop rates. Have to pull the valve body out to get to the sensor. No way I would tackle that on my own. But thanks for thinking of that - could have been an option if the damn sensor was outside the transmission where they should have left it. If it was a tailgate or something I would go that route. We buy aftermarket parts all the time. Rarely have seen any issue with them. I've bought a lot of after market in my time especially when I could work on my own stuff. Just a little scary with all the labor involved and I can't work on stuff like this anymore. Way above my pay grade now. I think I'll do some internet sleuthng and see if there's anything said about this Dorman part. Thanks again guys!!

You are correct the lead frame is on backorder with no release date. Do not use the dorman part. It is absolute trash. You can however get the entire valve body/ main control and it will include the lead frame.
