Ive been fishing Joe Pool and Tawakoni during the weekend for the last 7 weeks. I have only caught a limit once back in mid February off a dock loaded with brush.

I went yesterday and only caught 3. My dad went this morning and caught 2. Im going this afternoon as well.

The carp are already in the creek we fish in Joe Pool. In the past that was a sign for us that the spawn is done, but I dont feel like it is.

Bluebonnets are out so I would think its prime time but I havent been able to find them in my usual spots.

Am I just off this year or do the crappie seem to not be biting or in the creeks like they usually dare around this time?

Thoughts?

I was wondering the same thing. I was on Joe Pool all day Wednesday in my usual spots for this time of the year and the bite was almost nonexistent. The water was a little murky in a couple of spots and my thinking was this rain every few days had slowed it down. Hopefully I can get back out again soon with better luck, don't fish as much as I used to with a 2 and 5 year old and one more coming in July.

I live in North East Texas and caught these March 9th. Full moon was on the 7th and we had several warm nights that I believe moved the fish up in the spawning areas. Since then we had several cold fronts and found fish moved out some. Iā€™m guessing there will be another large group move in after the full moon in April.

They don't all spawn at once. There will be waves of spawning fish all the way til May.

Seems like the first wave was rather early this year to me...mid feburary

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

The large amounts of rains this spring has hurt the creek crappie spawn bite for me. Sandies have been a lot more consistent. If the rain would slow, I think the spawn bite will pick up. Hard for the crappie to spawn when the creeks always flooded and flowing fast

Will do.

Went to JP this afternoon from 6pm - 8pm and caught two 9 1/2" crappie on the jig. not fat at all. Im guessing males. Brought minnows this time and not a bite.

Definitely got to move around to find them, midlake is doing better than north right now. Night fishing with minnows definitely better from bank. February in the creeks for crappie was on fire until carp moved in and scattered the fish. Hit a creek yesterday for sandies and caught all males milking. Have not caught any females in the creek with eggs only at the dam. Crappie in the brush seem harder to catch in the last few days but they are there
