I want to use my 20 volt drill batteries to run my Garmin. I see conflicting or vague information on line about doing this. Anyone here doing this?

I've read where a Garmin chartplotter can handle up to 20 volts. I personally wouldn't do it because a 20 volt lithium battery will charge to slightly above 20 volts.

You could use a step down converters though. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Mellif-Conve...JrosuU1_6fSGEfasIhRyt4h0mexoCPYQQAvD_BwE

You get out of it what you put into it!

Depends on which unit you have. Not all are rated that high.

You should post your question in the Electronics page and should call Garmin and ask them. Some people have been running 16v batteries when using Livescope but I haven’t seen anyone using 20v batteries.

This is the way I went. The initial trial in the garage went 5 hours before I turned it off. It could have gone at least 2 more hours. I’m very happy with this.

Why though? What is the benefit of this vs. running a reg. battery? Just that its multi purpose or is there more advantages to this Mud?

They are relatively cheap (for lithium batteries), compact, and easy to charge.
They don't have a lot of amp hours; so if you are only fishing for a few hours, they work well.

If you want a lithium battery to last a day or two of kayak fishing before needing a recharge.
https://www.amazon.com/LOSSIGY-LiFe...TNZDW?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

and a couple of battery terminals

This is the battery charger I use. It's programmable and will charge any battery I can think of from lead acid car batteries, to Nickel Cadmium, to Lithium Ion, to Lithium Iron Phosphate. Anything.

Also, if you already have tools on the battery platform, you probably already have more than a couple batteries at your disposal... so you can take another battery and swap it out if you think you might run out of juice. Then simply throw them on the charger that is already mounted to the wall or sitting on the corner of the workbench.

I have never seen anyone use tool batteries to run electronics until now... its a clever solution if you already have the batteries/chargers.

They do sell a really cool adapter for Lithium tool batteries I've seen people use for kayak fish finders to make the connections even easier.
