NOT !!!!
We met with an old friend on Waco today to catch and catch up after havent seen each other in abt 6 years.
the wind was brutal, and we got pushed off of every place we tried to fish except one area. I feel like im still out there and feel like im still rocking with the waves !! Got soaked wet by a few waves coming over the bow, but pressed on , determined to get on some fish with my friend who had travelled several hours to see me and fish together.
we found willing fish from 32 feet to around 24 feet, roaming near or one cover.
the natural colors like constant pursuit sausage gravy and bobby G minnow immitation was what they wanted, just like last time. The smaller profile baits is making a big difference in thier willingness to bite. action was not fast, but steady.. we had several over 1.5 to 1.7 lbs and the rest were just thick, solid fish..
Ive told folks for years, this time of year, START deeper and work your way shallower. you will catch more fish and better fish. If you want to fish 25 miles of bankline, and catch mostly small males, IF you can find them, knock yourself out..
the only thing consistent about this time of year, is that they can be caught consistently in deeper water.. the larger fish congregate in smaller schools, on small cover or structure.

The fish will gradually move shallower, sometimes 8 to 10 feet, but many will spawn in deeper water , especially on deeper, lightly stained lakes. [Linked Image]

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

That’s some beautiful water.

Congrats on finding some quality fish after searching in poor conditions.

Front rolled through here last night and temps dropped 20 degrees.

you know, as soon as we pulled into that water, we all noticed how good it looked,., I even told my son, THIS is what you are looking for as far as water color is concerned, it has life in it.. so the fact that u noticed it too is pretty neat.
lots of black crappie are caught in this area, all year long, in a primarily white crappie lake.

thanks, we hadnt been using out bigger boat lately due to the low water and shallow ramps right now, but I sure wish I was in it when we went. we were riding parrallel to the rocky dam when the waves kicked up to around 3 to 4 feet, way beyond whitecaps... so the option of running the boat on the bank and waiting it out was no bueno.. Just had to grin and bear it.. the old dam on waco makes an underwater wave builder, as the water comes over it out of the south, it creates a roll effect, and makes it like a washing machine effect . alot like some areas of cedar creek lake, with the seawalls along the bank.

Steve,

Looks like you and your friend had a fantastic day despite the weather conditions. Looks like tons of fun. Quick question; will the fish stay where you found them or eventually move around a little bit?

Nice job!!! Thanks for the report !!!They was on the banks a week ago before this cold front. I would tell anyone right now if you can get in a creek I would and fish brush tops 3 to 8 foot or layovers creeks are stacked.

bro post a pic of us, the one Kasey took made us look like aliens.. lol

the fish will be there for a while., some will move out of that area and go to brushpiles a little shallower in the main lake. we need to go back when the wind isnt so bad, and fish that bankline I showed you.
