I often use the leftover melted butter we use when we do a crab boil. Typically this is melted butter, garlic and some lemon juice. If I don't have any leftover I just make some without the lemon juice. Half a stick of butter when I am only making cup or so. Once it is hot pour some salsa Queso in on the hot butter and stir until well mixed. If it is a bit thin I might add a slice or two of just about any sandwich cheese or an undisclosed amount of shredded cheese, often chedder, Jack or whatever. The end result doesn't have to be all that thick though. For a carrier a ball of the white fluffy stuff that comes out of dog toys is perfect (polyester?), around the size of a nickel works well. Almost always used with cattle cubes or soaked milo chum. If done right the bait will stay effective in the water for at least 30 minutes. So if you want to try to make some bait yourself this is a good place to start. Won't spoil for a long time.

Neat bait idea, I bet even when the bait does spoil the cat don't care, heck if anything the cats might like it even more lol

If you add a bit if canning salt, the non iodized kind it might last forever. I usually fish it before it is 6 months old and neither grease or cheese spoils very fast.
