Does anyone have recent info on the gator pair that was/is hanging out for years around the Aransas County airport shoreline of Copano?
I haven't seen them in a year or so and was wondering if they had been relocated, or....

I fish out of that launch and never saw the gator, but a friend did. Probably four years ago. Someone told me within the last year that somebody shot the gator. Don't know if it's true. I leave gators alone, and so far, they have left me alone. Maybe another Forumite might have better info. IslandJim

A little known tidbit on alligators, if they stay in saltwater too long, they'll go blind and basically starve themselves to death. Harvey moved a bunch of lizards around, they got flushed out of the river delta and marsh and ended up in places they really shouldn't have been. Like our canal. They became instant crab food when that happened.

They were out in force in Rockport area a couple years ago during our June company tournament. Heavy rains pushed them out of the sloughs. A couple times they put us back in the boat. One guy claimed a 6 footer bit his net but there weren’t any teeth marks.

Remember a gator just just a dinosaur. They have a brain the size of a grape, and by instinct fear nothing but a bigger lizard. They are not predictable, and can and will do some really stupid stuff. And if you ever wondered what a "little" six footer can do? Here's what a little six footer can do ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/qBXfRkS/lizard-bite.jpg)

Ouch. There has to be a story behind that picture.

Pat; the guy from Barroom Bay a few years ago? Yes. Kevin was wading with four other guys. That piece of water is not infested with lizards. It grabbed him and drug him about fifty yards. He kicked himself loose just in time for his son to pull him in the boat. Started in thigh deep and ended up In shoulder deep. I started carrying a .357 in an Alaskan holster if I’m wading back lakes now. Why wouldn’t you?

Never thought of that, but it's a good idea. I got a Kenai rig because of all the shady types trespassing along a river I used to hit during the white bass run. They're often armed, almost always arrogant and confrontational, and have absolutely no respect for NO TRESPASSING signs. My 1911 conceals nicely behind the top of my waders but is easily accessible. I also got a holster for it for an N-frame S&W; I might just start toting a 4" .41 Mag with some of my 'rhino roller' loads in those back lakes now. Good thinking.

Anyone who thinks that lizard is afraid of you, or leave it alone and it'll leave you alone, doesn't know diddle about alligators. They aren't afraid of you, to them you're just the next snack.
They're dinosaurs with the brain the size of a pecan.

I think that most gators, most of the time, under most conditions, won’t get aggressive toward people without provocation. However, I’ve seen enough instances where they have exhibited unprovoked aggression that I won’t get into the water with one that I know is close. It’s never kept me from fishing unless I know one is close or I’m in the vicinity of a nest. I’ve changed locations a few times over nesting gators…….
