man that lake is terrifying. I hired a guide when I was there about 5 years ago. Someone on here. He was great and we caught a bunch of fish, but i would never put my own boat in that lake. We went North of some bridge, and it was just an endless mine field of stumps right under the water. We mostly just rolled over them going very very slowly.

I understand. The first time we fished it for tournaments years ago, this was pre GPS, my brother and I puckered every time we ping-ponged off stumps in his new skeeter. When I started fishing it myself the first year I just trailered cove to cove. The first tournament we fished just one cove all day. So many horror stories from locals had me hesitant to run it. The guide lane chip is great though. I still don't fully trust my gps and do not run anything past the villages except the high lines as it gets real narrow up there. TBH I only run about 3/4 throttle from 155 to the villages anyway. I've found everything I need on that lake from mid lake south and much easier to navigate.

The lore of the deadly stump fields keep newbies off the juice

If you fish Kickapoo and Old Folks and don't mind fishing in that type of structure you would also like Flat Creek. I love it but then again it is where I caught my personal best big fish.

Its funny because it took me a long to figure out where old folks was and no one would tell me. Finally a man at lake Palestine resort told me after he laughed a bit and I personally never had good luck in there but it looks great. May just be me. But I'm that way at fork. Everything looks great but no luck.

Up north, way up north. Flat creek and Kickapoo, also way up.
Simple yet effective. The north end which is farther than most people dare to roam used to catch some huge late winter strings.

Are you talking about the north east arm where the Neches river and Indian creek are? I always wondered if you could launch a bass boat there on the river at HWY31. It looks great just never spent the time to idle up it from the villages.

There used to be a ramp into the Neches on 31, was sketchy then.....

To try to answer your question as best as I can.

Yes that is Old Folks. You can come in from the north or south, not what I’d call an easy journey to get there but easy to move around once you get there. It’s easier to get to than Flat,Kickapoo or Cades imo.

It can be really good in March, not Flat or Kickapoo good but still good. If they’re back there you can spend the day back there. Don’t be afraid to fish really SHALLOW. I’ve had my best days on a fluke/senko in March.

Can’t never go wrong with a frog or buzz bait.

Give it a shot. Good luck.
