Snapper,
How far out did you guys have to go to find the ole kingfish? We're headed down there in about 6 weeks.

Well...the question was how far OUT there sharp shooter..If you are aware of Mansfields location you would know that NORTH would still be INSIDE the madre... where as OUT.....would be in the gulf...like where kingfish actually are caught.....open mouth insert foot.

Kings North of Mansfield are thick from 1/2 mile off the beach out to about 5-7 miles, 35-75ft of water.

Do any of you think if one paddled a kayak out 1/2 mi. to 1 mi. offshore from Galveston, that they could get some kings? Would free-lining a ribbon fish be the best way to try and get some? Being that there's not much structure out there, what types of places should I look for to target them? I wonder if sounds would attract them, like bumping the side of the kayak...I doubt it though.

what i mean by north is when we reach the jetties, if you troll around the jetties with big rapalas and ribbion fish you will catch lots of kings not more than 1 mile away just out to the buoys and back
