Hello all,
I will be retiring from the Marine Corps this summer and am relocating to the greater Fort Worth area (couple applications in with Lockheed). I have been silently watching/reading for a month or so now and have noticed a lot of folks are running a boat lane chips, any preference on who to purchase from? For a guy coming out of state, are there any other items boat wise I should take into account prior to arriving? I will be back that way at the end of this month to find a house near the Weatherford area. Excited to get this chapter started and moving on in the Great State of Texas.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
Kyle

Which lakes are you thinking of fishing? Not sure how many or if you would need a boat lanes chip. I would say the Fork is probably the most tried a true. There are some new lakes showing up but not sure how test/trusted they are.

Welcome and thank you for your service.
That Weatherford area is growing and the folks are super friendly. Worked there for a couple years before the 'vid hit.

I didn’t realize they were lake specific, good to know. Thank you.
As far as lakes to venture out on I have no clue. Obviously Fork at the right time of year would be great. So I’ll probably look at getting a chip for that one.
Really just looking forward to the whole experience of Texas fishing.

I am sure others will chime in but just a word of caution - steer clear of Lake Lewisville between May 1 and August 31st between the hours of 10 a.m. and sunset. You are taking your life in your own hands.

Depending on the gps unit, Lakemasters or navionics. Depending on the region will give a general overview of the lakes in the regions, ie south region and soforth. To get specific lakes like Fork, Palestine, or others there’s some very trusted chips produced by Tom Mayne and Lance Vick. Depends on the individual preference on Lakemasters or Navionics, each have their on qualities. The specific lake chips work with the the regional chips.

I am running birds on my Eyra, was eyeballing the Lakemaster chip, currently have an older navionics chip and its been mediocre. Looks like I will start shopping around then, and thank you for your service Sir.

I have birds also and prefer Lakemasters. I’m currently running a 1197 as my dedicated GPS unit and sonar in my dash, a helix 10 on a ram mount at the console and a helix 10 up front on a ram mount on my Puma. When installing a lake specific chip on a Bird be sure and follow the directions. On some of the units they will default to a dotted line on trails. You will have to manually change the trail to a solid line. Pretty easy if a old fart like me can do it, y’all younger guys can handle it.
