I live near Houston, and understand snook fishing in Texas means Padre Island and related estuarine waters -- freshwater drainages where snook feeding is focused. Seems more like a fish safari approach for us, and we'd like to include a half day (morning or evening) "hunt" as part of an extended tour of the area. Please advise on time of year and processes for booking a trip. Pamela will also fish, we have limited experience on saltwater, and need to control sun exposure at our age. Thanks in advance, and cheers!! Barry Nagel

I have been to SPI and the Brownsville ship channel trying to catch a snook, with no success. I would contact Brian Barrerra at www.inshorefishingsouthpadre.com. If not him, Ernest Cisneros. Both those guys are great captains. Good luck, IslandJim

Shannon (Texasflycaster.com) lives on SPI and has done some snook trips; I believe he’s gone with Mark Machado. Shannon’s on a flight right now up to DFW to cover the FlyFest, but he’ll be landing shortly after noon. Shoot him an email and see if he has a recommendation.

Let me know if y’all want to book a trip. I run a 17’ maverick poling skiff and a 27’ shallow sport latitude. Mainly fish the latitude around the jetty or for shark trips. Skiff is my sight casting and snook boat.

Capt. Andrew — how does a snook boat differ from a trout and redfish boat? Also I'm a little bit obsessed with the 27 Latitude ever since I watched the Shallow Sport team run one into Rattlesnake during the owner's tournament a bunch of years ago. Would love to fish with you sometime.

I built my skiff with a removable rear tower to be able to go under docks to get right up into places that other boats can not go. The latitude is awesome. I just installed auto pilot and some new screens on it this month. Will probably list it for sale soon and get ready for the next project.
