For those that will not eat Stripes , Hybrids and or sandies. ?Thanks . The preparer and cook are critical . I have eaten Walleye and Sauger, good but not snob appeal ! Good to have a choice ! I could`nt agree with you more about the COOK & the Preparer. Some folks have never heard of Flavor enhancers so they are quick to say how terrible something taste when they don`t have the knowledge or principles of flavoring . There are things in your refrigerator & pantry that, when added to these ugly looking, HORRIBLE tasting ( some will say) fish ie. Buffalo,Carp,Gou,Sand Bass,Hybrid,Stripes etc, will change perspectives. Unfortunately some will never know this because they will just take the words of the unlearned as gospel. Is there an "AMEN" corner out there?

The best part about Yellow Bass is, their fillets are the perfect size for a corn tortilla! The meat has a finer grain than a White bass, and is nice and firm. I keep every one that I catch.

My 2 cents : Crappie/Flathead/Blues/ white bass and Striper in that order. I generally fry it all in peanut oil and I use Zatarians Shrimp fry for everything. I remove the red on striper and soak all My fillets ,regardless of species, 24 hours in milk. If I freeze it, I freeze it in milk. Generally I only freeze catfish, the others I eat the day after I catch them .

There is a trick on the flatheads . First , as with any catfish , bleed well. Second , don't skin, fillet the skin off , leaving a little meat on the skin. next put the meat on ice for 24 hours. The fat will congeal on the surface of the meat. Scrap this off with a dull knife or spatula. Now it is ready to freeze or cook. I caught a 43# on a crappie jig , prepared it in this manner and it was excellent.
I grew up in the Panhandle, Lake Meredith came online when I was in middle school, Caught and ate a ton of walleye. I fell crappie and walleye are equal , Walleye better if you like a thick fillet , Crappie if you prefer a thin fillet,
your mileage may vary
MO Thank You, I’ll give that a try!

Yep, there are taste enhancers for those meats that don't taste good without them. Went to a fish fry once where the host provided white bass fillets. Said these were the best fish there was. I thought "really?" Then I watched him eat several fillets with about a teaspoon of ketchup on every bite.

I’d eat yellow bass if I could catch em big enough to eat! Ones I catch are small!’ That said I don’t keep many crappie so I’m probably not gonna bring anything else home!

This… cook them fresh. This makes a huge difference in taste and texture. I like sand bass, organic protein!
You ain’t gonna catch any sittin’ on the couch.

I guess different strokes for different folks, but I’ve cooked sandbass, striper, and hybrids in just about every possible way a person could think of and there is no making them taste good. Black bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye, channel cats, blue cats, and flathead cats are all on the list of fish better than sandies, striper, and hybrids. I’ve even eaten freshwater drum and they weren’t too awful either. Yellow bass are good if you can get them big enough, but they’re not even close to black bass, bluegill, crappie, and walleye.
