I spend 8-10 hours a day on the road here in the greater DFW area and noticed something about pickup truck drivers. As a guess, 60% are white males. 30% are Hispanic males. 5% are female, 3% Black males and 1% are Asian males. The remaining 1% are whatever.
The surprising thing to me is how few Black males and the rare Asian I see in a pickup. Anyone have any thoughts about this?
And let's try to keep this civil and out of the bunker.

Some people drive a pickup because they need the cargo capacity, and some people just like to drive them. The DFW area is an urban area where most people don't really need a pickup, at least not on a regular basis, but it's a cultural preference for white and Hispanic males. In rural areas, you will probably notice more minorities driving them out of necessities that don't exist in DFW.

Blacks: Pickup truck equals "redneck". Nope, don't want to be associated with those.

Asians: His new BMW isn't in yet. It's a loner, and he likes it. He gets to slum with the regular Texans.

Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's an EMP!

I drive a truck mainly because I fish and pull a boat most weekends. I'm also tall and like the room in a full size truck as opposed to a car. And yes, I'm a white male.

Most Asians grow up not driving in their home country, always taking some form of public transportation

Once they arrive in the USA they have never driven, Pick up truck too big for them to drive, they want smaller car.

Most people want good gas mileage if they donโ€™t really need a pickup.

trucks seem to be a symbol of being a redneck or farmer

Maybe should have included a category for (Sikhs?). Past 15-20 years, every time we're off in the RV, gassing up at FJ or Pilot or whatever, seems like better than half the semi drivers we see are wearing turbans.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

I guess you've never been to the deep south? Where I'm from your manhood is questioned if you don't drive a truck.
