When does the bluegill fishing start to get good consistently? I seem to get some on the warmer days in winter but is still fairly slow. From what I noticed in my fishing areas here in the DFW area I really start catching a lot of them starting from the beginning of April. From there it just keeps getting better all the way till about December. Then it slows down. Water temp is In the mid 50s here on most lakes so it should be picking up really soon.

Sunfish fishing for me usually picks up around early April. Right now I am fishing during the warm spells and finding some active fish. Once the major cold fronts stop the bite will turn on. Side Note: I have caught some good numbers of nice Bluegill during the cold days of winter but those days are few and far between!

I start catching them in April, but I can’t wait for June.

From the past 2 years, I've noticed that the sunfish start moving in the creeks as early as March. Especially during warm fronts.
You mentioned DFW, so what I typically do is scout smaller creeks in Frisco/Plano/Allen/McKinney around this time and start saving them on Google Maps. Just to point you in the right direction, follow Rowlett Creek, Spring Creek, or Russel Creek on Maps and try to identify cross streets for easy creek access. Keep in mind that the closer the creeks are to a major lake, the more you'll be fighting with other anglers for fishable water especially during the white bass movement. But that is a fun experience in and of itself!
Good luck!

That is a great one Danny! How did you catch that pig? I want one that size myself this spring. Have a trip planned to Athens for a few days in May just to target those... and maybe some bass. But those for sure!
