I had the opportunity to fish Camelot Bell and Round Table this past Friday with my son and a buddy of mine. The weather was miserable. It had been 80 on Wednesday, but the high Friday was 50 with 15mph steady winds and on and off rain. We knew going in that it was going to be tough, but we had all scheduled off work and decided to go anyway.
We were originally only supposed to fish Bell. We started out there at daylight and the fishing was really slow as we expected it to be. We probably could have done a little better, but we spent some time looking at giants off shore on the Livescope. Someone who knows how to catch them could have a time out there. I have had a Livescope for a couple of years now, but have only had my boat in the water twice now since having it and have spent no time trying to learn it so there was just about zero chance of us catching them that way.
Then shortly after lunch we headed to Round Table. It is the newest lake built by Mike and isn't even filled up yet. I think that we were lucky enough to be some of the very first on it. We launched there about 1:30 and started catching them right away and were probably averaging one every five minutes or so just going down a tree line in about 6 feet of water fishing jigs and plastics. Then we get to a spot where I flip over to a tree and catch one, throw it back and flip back to the same spot and catch another, throw it back and repeat. I'm a little slow, but by about now I realize that there may be something to this spot so I put the power poles down.
I know that this may sound like an exaggeration, but it is not in any way. For the next three hours we threw into about a 20' radius and caught fish on every single cast. We may have had two casts during this entire time that we didn't catch a fish. No monsters, but no dinks either. We had a couple right at 6lbs and our smallest fish was probably not under 2lbs with most being in the 3lb - 5lb range. When we left we were still catching them on every single cast.
I wish that we would have counted, but we didn't, but we estimate that we caught somewhere around 300, maybe more. However many three guys can catch as fast as they can cast for 3 hours straight. We even removed the barb from our hook so we could get them off faster.
Crazy day. I can only imagine what this lake will be in a couple of years. Mike and Bertha are wonderful hosts and it was obvious that Mike wanted us to catch them as bad as we wanted to.

It's been nearly 9 years since I've been out there, but I will be back. It was quite an experience. I suspect there'd be a lot fewer people from up north paying 1-2k for a guide if they knew about CB.

Mike is a good dude for sure.
When we were there last year he took us out to see Round Table while it was still filing up. Going back again the year and can't wait!!

I suspect there'd be a lot fewer people from up north paying 1-2k for a guide if they knew about CB. How will fishing a heavily stocked well managed lake, help me fish a public lake later on? If you go to this place, you are paying to catch fish. If you spend $1,000 - $2,000 on a guide, you are paying to learn things that you will be able to apply every day on the water after that.

That’s it, paying to catch fish easier and increase your odds of a trophy, just like high fence managed deer. One thing I’ve seen, most don’t advertise where that big [censored] fish or deer was caught or shot when the bragging pics come out! To each their own.

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish... Personal Best: 11.62 lbs

That said I just built a 3.5-4 acre pond for those days when I don’t want to fight the masses so there is that…..

That’s what it’s like fishing El Salto and El Comedero. Not from a single hole but by end of day your beat.
