So I have a Yamaha 250. Last summer I broke 3 transom savers towing from and to the lake. My motor is bouncing up enough for the transom saver to come off the roller on the trailer. Anyone ever had this problem. Its a yahmaha . Where could I have it looked at. Plano marine in lewisville looked at it but didn't get anywhere. yet

Is your tilt and trim functioning? Maybe bleeding off? Hope fully your transom doesn't flex that much. What boat is it on?

Sounds like you have air in your trim unit

The old school transom savers had it fixed to the trailer by either a small cable, bungee or bolt. The worst thing for any transom is to run it without a transom saver to the trailer. The new “motor totor” style doesn’t do much on a bumpy ride. Most glass shops agree with that and if they don’t they’re looking for your business down the road.

Yamahas go through bushings and motor mounts. Had a SHO that had to replace them. There are aftermarket replacements that are alot more durable.

I've been using the old school transom saver for almost 40 years. I've never once attached it to the trailer

Totally disagree as that bumpy ride is nothing compared to the beating it takes blasting across rough water. Amazes me that people think a little aluminum tube is stronger than the transom.

I dropped mine in the lake when the water was way too cold to jump in and retrieve it.

Nothing can be done in the water but it can be controlled on the trailer. It’s about keeping the flex out not being stronger.

Are you sure that you have the trailer cinched down really tight? The weight of the motor should hold it down against the totor. Don’t be afraid to run it down hard against the totor. Remember your motor doesn’t have power down, it’s just the weight of the motor that gives it downward force. You may also trying lowering it some so that you have the most weight possible against roller.

Like Dubee said, I've had a lot of boats from high end Legends down to Xpress and never needed the transom saver tied to the trailer. Good luck!

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish... Personal Best: 11.62 lbs
