Go to the lake that has history of producing giant bass but is getting the least amount of fishing pressure right now. That’s your best chance to catch a DD and I know a lake that fits this description to a tee.

I like this. Plus even if you don’t catch a DD, it’s a much more enjoyable day with a little peace and quiet.

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

Go to big fish lake in a few weeks, get 2 dozen water dawgs, 6/0 circle hook, heavy line and rod. Hang on

There will be a bunch of DD fish caught this spring, but your individual chances are not great. Especially if you are an average guy who can't be on the water every day

At its peak, Camelot Bell was probably the best place in the world to catch a DD. I did the math the best I could in 2016 (close to peak) and 2 guys fishing 10 hours had about a 50/50 shot at a 10 lb+ fish. That was in a small private lake loaded to the brim with DD's. Get on big pressured public water and your odds go way way way down. That said, there are very few places I'd rather try right now than Texas if I had to catch a DD. Larry has offered some good advice above, good luck!

It holds most of the top spots for state records; 6 of the top 10.
One more. Get back on I-20 and go to Monroe, head north from there on HWY 167 to Bastrop, from there you'll have to map it but Bussey Brake is a small lake; 2200 acres, it sat empty for well over a decade and grew up in willow trees. It was reopened in 2020 and is producing DD's already. The one thing I've learned about new impoundments is if they have Florida strain largemouth the odds are a lot better to catch a DD.

Great choices, but the easiest way to Caney is to by-pass Ruston and go on to the Choudrant/Sibley exit. Exit there take a right on 145. Go past my house, through town, cross HWY 80 and the tracks then go right at the split. Follow it 10-12 miles to it's intersection with Chatham Rd. Hang a left 10-12 miles to Chatham. Take a right on HWY 4 into Browns Landing. Then to get to Bussey, you need to go north on 165 from Monroe towards Bastrop. I plan on hitting both of them up this year.

Lies, we fry and blacken our bass. Fish don't belong in gumbo.............

Giant Catfish and Redfish can make good coubillion.

I lost a for sure DD a year ago in the top left circle. Biggest fish I've seen in person. Was by myself and went to net it. It didn't fit sideways and when it slid over the edge of the net, it took off under the boat and my 14lb flouro snapped before the drag could let out line. Still haunts me to this day.
