4000 is way too big. I use 2000 and know folks who use 3000

Depends what you are looking to catch with it. Panfish, go with the 2000, if you are thinking you are likely to hook into bigger stuff I'd go with the 3000. The drag will work better.
*Edit: or shoot the gap and go with a 2500

I have settled on 300(3000) for Bass and Sandbass unless I am using 4 or 6 pound line. In that case I will drop down to a much smaller reel. The truth is I dont go out with 4 or 6 pound line trying to catch Bass though.

I have three 300's, and one 400. The 400 sits in the garage and collects dust. It's too big for the applications I use. Just get you a 300. It's the best of both worlds.

I like the 2500 Stradic best for drop shotting.

Most 2500 and 3000 sized reels have the same spool diameter, just the 3000 is a little deeper to hold more line.

3000 for me. I do use a 4000 on my hair jig rod throwing 1/8oz marabou for smallmouth.

I like the 2500 Stradic best for drop shotting. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ +1 and if you use 30# braid to a fluorocarbon leader that is a perfect set up for the drop shot on spinning tackle. I do all my drop shotting with a baitcaster. I just like it better than the spinning set up, although I use 10-15# test fluorocarbon line. No 2-8# line for me unless I go crappie fishing.

2500 size seems ideal for me. I don’t need or want a lot of extra line on the spool.
