Hello,

I took an old greenie curado 200e5 in on trade. It retrieves smoothly but there is something not right with the thumb bar. With zero weight on the line and reel spool, the thumb bar operates and depresses with normal pressure. With line tension, however, like your lure snugged up on the hook keeper, the thumb bar is incredibly difficult to depress. It even feels like it barely has any movement to it at all. I'd like help on what might be the issue because I want to begin maintenancing my own reels starting with this one. Ideas, suggestions, part vendor recommendations all welcome.

Thanks,
Clay

That’s normal when you have a “load” on the reel…when you have it hooked to the keeper just back the drag off to take of the load and the thumb bar will depress smoothly

Thanks for the feedback. Out of the 30+ other reels I use. From other greenie curados, to k's, and other brands, this doesn't feel normal. It is the one and only reel I have experienced this with. Are you saying the drag on this one is just tighter than the others, or?

No I’m saying that when you have a load on the reel be it hung up on something or clipped to itself and tightened down, it will be difficult to push the thumb bar…this is due to the load being in the main gear and pinion gear and the yoke which pushes up with the pinion gear as the clutch plate rotates

It seems like we aren't quite on the same page. One reel doesn't work like the others. I was looking for assistance in diagnosing why. If I dont have to losen drag on others to get their thumb bars to depress normally, it would seem like there is something else, mechanically, not functioning properly with the reel I asked about. I'll leave this discussion alone, and thanks again for the information.

That’s not normal at. The bait on the hook keeper is not a “load”. It’s just a little tension. I can press the buttons on any of the 18 reels I have standing up in my house right now with baits on the keeper tightened down with no issue.

I don’t know the answer op but definitely not normal.

I guess I was not clear…apologies…sometimes folks crank their hook keepers down enough that it puts a load onto the reel and will make it difficult to disengage the thumb bar. Being those reels have a short arm to the thumb bar and not one stretching across these are prone to get bent slightly and could cause your issue
