Spawn? No. Not even close. There are crappie shallow in creeks and have been for a while, but they aren’t spawning and won’t be for over a month, they’re chasing Shad. We’ve had one warm day. The last 2 weeks before that were freezing…..with snowmelt and ice runoff. February spawners (in north Texas) are a unicorn. They don’t exist.

I just find it laughable that we can have one warm day and the cabin fever sets in. Look at the forecast. We’re only gonna have two days that get out of the 60s for the next 10 days. The water has to get in to the 60s for them to really start moving up, and water doesnt warm up that fast.

If those eggs are mature and ready to ooze out.... I don't think some are waiting on a certain temp .

If those eggs are mature and ready to ooze out.... I don't think some are waiting on a certain temp . What comes first, the crappie or the egg?

I think spring spawn fishing is awesome watching those suckers thump u in 6 inches to a foot boat flipping some slabs. It should crank up in the next few weeks if not sooner hopefully as I will be hunting them down starting next weekend.
